How to successfully claim from Royal Mail

Hi all,
I have never successfully claimed from Royal Mail for "lost" items. I lost an INR which Im going to appeal as Royal Mail are sending me written confirmation the item was actually delivered.
In the meantime, any tips for making a successful claim would be welcomed as every time I have previously claimed, my claims have been denied even with the buyer being refunded.

If Royal Mail say your item was delivered you cannot claim for loss via RM, or have I misunderstood?I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. It doesn't quite make sense. If Royal Mail say the item was delivered, it means you have tracking or a parcel reference, and if you have that, and the item is delivered, you would not have lost the INR.Warning: any unnecessary disclaimers appearing under my posts do not bear any connection with reality, either intended, accidental or otherwise. As the OP stated that Royal Mail are going to be sending them written confirmation of a successful delivery, it's possible that there is no online viewable proof of delivery (maybe a glitch in the system) and without the POD being online, they would lose the INR claim.0 -

How many times have you claimed for a lost item? In decades of receiving/sending goods via RM I've never had to claim for a loss.0 -
Why are your claims being refused? I've never had one refused.
Things to remember: always ensure you are using the correct postal service for the item, taking into account what it is and value. Check any postal restrictions, i.e. batteries, perfumes etc. Make sure it's packaged properly.
Add the tracking number/ delivery confirmation from your PO receipt to the ebay sale page and always double check this if a buyer opens a case. It's amazing how many items 'turn up' when you tell them the tracking shows it was delivered. Even if the buyer still says it wasn't delivered, use that to get an INR case closed, and them help them outside of ebay.
When filling out a claim form for RM, make sure you include everything they've asked for including ebay/paypal sale page and proof of posting."If you can dream it, you can do it". Walt Disney0 -
I haven't made a claim now for probably 18months or so but when I used to claim I also never had more than 2 claims denied in the past 20+ years.
However, as has been said above OP you won't be able to claim on this occasion if RM believe it has been delivered as you cannot therefore sign to say item was lost. You also can't win an INR without online proof of delivery which is a Catch 22 situation. This used to be fairly common with the old recorded/signed for service where it never updated online but where RM had a paper copy showing delivery- we used to warn about the issues of using recorded on here for that very reason. However I thought that was no longer an issue due to updates or proper use of the electronic systems.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I've claimed about 5 times. The last 2 didn't make sense because they refused them without giving a valid reason as I had included everything they wanted including the POP. It was just a bog standard letter I received saying "we deliver millions of items and we are sorry we didn't manage to deliver yours". So I wrote back to them to ask why and then the cheques miraculously came.0
