Vendor removed items that should have been left

OP, as you go along there will be other things that annoy, taking a wine fridge will probably be the least.
My last move they took the built in wardrobes that were specifically stated they were leaving .. hey ho never mind
Measure the gap left and get a new one ...cheaper and less hassle than trying to sue or god forbid going to police and probably getting told to do one0 -
All it's left is the poles and those are what ... a tenner?
If purchased from the likes of B&M, yes. We have antique/vintage poles (super chunky wooden type with ornate finials) that cost way more than that second handWhen we sold our last couple of houses we informed our buyers we were taking these but would replace with bog standard ones (from B&Q, iirc). They were fine with this.
I agree with everyone else though that this - and the wine fridge - is really not worth losing sleep over or bothering the police.....just get on with enjoying your new home, OP!Mortgage-free for fourteen years!
Over £40,000 mis-sold PPI reclaimed0 -
No - I said the curtain poles weren't an issue. It is the several hundred pound wine fridge that was taken that we'd like back. Failing that we will need to pay a carpenter several hundred pounds to remedy the gaping hole that has been left in the integrated kitchen.
Maybe they should of written wine fridge in the Fixtures and Fittings TA10 document and ticked excluded.
Maybe you should of read the TA10 form and asked the question if it was included or not.
I remember having to write additional items in the document and exclude them but I tend to cover myself.
At best its breach of contract but I suspect as you didn't query it before exchange you have zero comeback on the vendor. Suggest you find a second hand wine cooler that will fit, I have seen them for £50-£100 in all sizes, rather than paying a carpenter to block the gap up. Do you have a photo of the cooler with a make on it?0 -
We were in similar situation - the vendor agreed in the fixtures and fittings list to leave all white goods including fridge freezer, washing machine, dishwasher etc.
When we collected the keys, it turned out she ''misunderstood'' and instead sold/dumped all white goods because she thought we don't want them.
This was our least problem - on top of that the boiler was broken leaving us without hot water and the electricity meter was left in debit leaving us without heating and electrics in the middle of the first night.
Our solicitor sent letter to the vendors solicitor trying to claim money for second hand white goods but, as expected, we didn't got reply.
Just accept the situation and move on, enjoy your new home and leave all bad things behind you. I know its not nice but it will cost you a lot of money to recover something that is not even worth getting stressed over. Oh the joy of being new homeowner :rotfl:0 -

When we completed, we had a note from the vendor saying the integrated oven had just packed-up.
If only it had just been the oven that was dodgy! (Replaced with a similar model for £40 on Gumtree.)
Edited to add: OP if you have not experienced this sort of thing before with a house purchase, then you've been fortunate. Most vendors are decent people, but there's much stress and hurry in a house move and so many areas where miscommunication may happen.
Once a property is sold, most of us don't look back. Solicitors will also advise little or no communication over trivial problems the incoming occupants may face.0 -
When I sold my last house, not only did I leave the built under wine fridge, I left a bottle of champagne in it for the new owners to enjoy.
Why pay a carpenter to make good a gap? Just buy another wine fridge. I can recommend AEG, bought one for my latest house. Between £480 and £600 depending on size. Looks great, works a treat and fills holes nicely.Signature on holiday for two weeks0 -
I have a good idea about what to do with the gap
Buy a new wine fridge - that will be cheaper and easier than any claim you may or may not have. if you buy one today you'll have it by christmas0 -
We recently took possession of a house that was being purchased from a couple who had split up. When we got into the house, we found that they had taken an integrated wine fridge from the kitchen and left a gaping hole in the integrated kitchen as a result, including exposing the insides of the integrated dishwasher that was next to it.The fixtures and fittings list neither expressly included or excluded the wine fridge but the estate agents particulars definitely included it.We have had our solicitor write to theirs but so far have had no response. We don't have forwarding addresses for either of the previous owners so not sure how we start an action against them.Any advice on next steps gratefully received. I'm tempted to report it to the police as in my view, this is a clear case of theft. But not sure whether the police would be interested.0

You have bought a house. Several hundred pounds will be a small bill in the scheme of things.
Just go and buy a new one.0 -

Most things for kitchens are standard sizes unless custom built.
If it(kitchen) is still made there will be an off the shelf door that will fit to cover the hole.0
