Is there a way to check if my heating is gas or electric?
If you can see flames in the boiler...

if it goes 'Whoomph' from time to time...

if you start to feel cold if you turn the gas off at the meter...

... then you have gas heating.
  • This has to be a wind up surely?

  • How is this a wind up...? Like I said, my gas is high but my mother was told by the agent the heating is electric hence the confusion. Does it sound like a wind up?

Anyway, yes it does go whoomph so it must be gas then. I don’t see a flame as its all enclosed.

I'm assuming you have 'wet' radiators connected to the gas boiler.

However, if you have these heaters which need full price electricity, run for the hills ...
  • I think you need to have a sit down and figure out firstly how your home operates and what powers what and then secondly do an audit of what exactly is turned on and when to find out what is using most power. You can then find ways to reduce your costs.

Until you know where your money is going however it will be difficult to work out where to start with the cost savings.

What's the point when the gas figure is so obviously wrong?

because when i wrote that post i hadnt read the post where we realised it was wrong. so commons sense - type "figures" into the comparison site

  • My three bed semi is well insulated. cavity wall and loft, and double glazed. My consumtion is
Elect 8kWh per day, 10 kWh when freezing to keep conservatory condensation free,
Gas 40 to 60 kWh per day winter, 4 kWh per day other times.
CH is on a timed thermostat.

from the extract of your gas bill posted above, it works out at just under 1400kWh for that month.... if that was November's, that's not so bad as it was pretty cold in Nov, and your useage was similar to mine (4-bed, 3-storey house). October's was about 600kWh, and I'm expecting December's to be 800-ish kWh as so far Dec has been warmer than Nov was, but still cooler than Oct was.

I suspect your annual gas useage will be around 12,000 to 13,000 kWh a year if you keep to similar useage, i.e. low for 6 months and high for 6 months...
