Talking about wood measurements - I have to laugh at (the reactionaries in) our shops that sell wood measured height and depth in imperial and length in metric.
If you ask for anything that doesn't conform to that eg. I want 2 yards of 4"x2" or 1m of 100mmx50mm you get looked at like a freak.0 -

Can't remember exactly which way round it was, but some time ago, I went into a local place to buy some clear plastic tube.
Me,
"Can I have 10 metres of 6 mm plastic tube please?"
Rather superior assistant,
"We only have quarter inch tube"
Me
"OK, 11 yards of quarter inch tube then please"
Rather superior assistant
"We only sell it by the metre"
