You do get used to your environment. We were fine in our house until the new neighbours at the bottom of the garden decided they need to be lit up like Blackpool illuminations, no direct light pointing at us but the amount of light coming from their direction is horrendous. As for LED street lights, hate the bloody useless things with pedestrians darting out from the black spots between them.

I never really considered there is a lot of ambient light in London. Wow! Mind blown.
    Glad to be of help.

The vast majority of people deal with that by closing curtains or blinds. It's kinda what they were invented for.

Our house has street lights a the front and none close at the back.

Our nightime natural light at the back is dependant on the moon cycle/clouds and it gets very dark to quite light.

The front is fairly constant dies to the street lights but even though they got changed to LED and are not as bright they feel brighter because they are white(moon light not on that side most of the time).

Your natural light is going to be mostly street lighting any way with a mix of moon depending on direction of the window.
I was leaving that there is a bright white (like a moon) light that shines in from the streetlight just outside.

I think it will be possible to block out that moon effect but still let in the non direct light.

Now what does that lever on my toilet do? Never been able to sort that one out.

It's what you should have done with your question, instead of posting it here.

    Thanks for the chuckle, Tim.

And thanks to those with experience. I haven't lived at ground floor level with streetlight before. And I only noticed it with the lights off in the bedroom at night of course which isn't when I had been in flat previously.

This place is very similar. The back faces onto a dark garden which backs a park that shuts at night so very quiet and dark. 75% of the space faces there except this one room which actually lets in lots of beautiful daylight in the bay windows which look out over trees across the road and pretty victorians on a quiet residential road.
  • If the flat is perfect for you in every other way then I'm afraid you are being a little pedantic...nothing will ever be 100% perfect.

Get some curtains up and stop complaining! You may find that you much prefer the privacy and reduced noise too.

Let me get this right - you want to sleep with the curtains open but also block out the light from outside?

Perhaps the OP is wanting to emulate certain establishments along the Reeperbahn.
Smart blinds would be an option - He could connect them to a "pay per view" app for select clients. Could be a nice little earner :rotfl:
