As the proud new owner of a colour inkjet, I now know Not To Let husband buy replacement ink from Tesco, but to plead with, wheedle and bribe youngest for use of his device instead until I can source the correct thing off the internet.
And folk wonder the high street is taking a caning...
  • Apparently, the refund policy has come about because " people are returning items without a receipt and not having bought them in the first place then obtaining a gift card using a fake receipt"

So why dont these people just do it with shavers, printers, etc, etc.

It's a fair bit easier to pocket a printer cartridge (without paying I assume) than larger items....

the smaller the item is the easier it is to steal and printer cartridges and toothbrushes are high value.

doesnt make sense to me why any retailer allows refunds on such tems

Can you just explain what you mean.
If they are returning with no receipt , what company would give a gift card at all.

We should take note of the fact that the OP said "with a receipt". This does seem to be a significant change to Tesco's T & Cs.

Lots of retailers do sometimes accept returns with no receipt, but keep the money "in house" by refunding in gift vouchers.
This doesn't stop shoplifters, but it discourages them from cashing their ill-gotten gains.

It's considered good customer service, as genuine customers do lose their receipts.

Although the chap legging it from my local Mr T complete with widescreen TV certainly gave it a good go.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.
  • Hi there,
Ink cartridge I bought Tuesday was faulty as my printer kept telling me. (not empty but faulty).
Returned it to shop. Didn`t need a replacement as I had bought another. Asked for refund and came across Tesco new policy !! They would not refund the 11.00, said Consumer Rights Act didn`t apply, ended with an argument with a manager, and I was asked to leave the shop.
Security man told me I was banned.
I contacted Trading Standards they said send standard refund letter to Head Office, so I am waiting to hear. Any further info from everyone out there will be greatly appreciated.
    I`ll keep you updated.

From a printer cartridge suppliers website
"A number of printer manufacturers are now temporarily preventing the use of third party cartridges by installing a new firmware on your printer. We will cover your purchase for 12 Months should you encounter this issue!
Although our cartridge is not faulty when this happens we STILL apply our warranty support, either by making sure we can provide a fix or supply a replacement or refund should you not be able to use the cartridges because of this."
