Out of curiosity, can you add notes to transactions with Money Dashboard?

Yes (which is useful for me now that I've checked that it is possible)

Question from me - I'd like to sort the accounts in a particular order (not just grouping by current/saving/credit accounts). Currently the accounts are listed in the order they were added and cannot be re-ordered.

MoneyDB allows you to drag/drop on the website but not on the app - and even then the website only lets you move by organisations (e.g. all Lloyds accounts, not just one at a time).

Do any of the apps allow you to drag/drop accounts on their apps to you preferred order?

I dislike the groupings by account type (current/savings/credit) and would prefer if aggregators grouped by bank/institution (or provided this as an option). I also would like the to either let you manually order within groupings or specify sort order options.

When I was comparing aggregators a year or two ago I think almost all grouped by account type but I can't really remember what each did with sort order options (or lack of). The only exception I remember WRT grouping is Bankin, which provided both by-account-type and by-bank views.

The one I settled on a year or two ago is Emma and is now the only one I'm up to date with. Emma doesn't provide view group options, doesn't provide sort order options, and and doesn't let you manually reorder. Grouping is done by account type and sort order within groups is by account value.
  • yolt now wants a picture of you some sort of new EU directive to combat fraud, there is no way i am doing that. I would only give that to my bank if necessary. this is NWO talking here.

But what about when we leave the eu?

One of the reasons both yolt and money dashboard are slow (as claimed above) is that they both use the same third party to access the banks. A US-based FCA certified company called Yodlee which has its own API sitting between the bank's Open Banking API and the developer's app.
What does surprise me is how different the performance is when comparing money DB to yolt. All down to the developers' skills I suppose.
It is slightly worrying that not all connections are via Open Banking, still apparently using screen scraping for some accounts, even though the major banks implemented OB over a year ago.
  • I’ve been using Yolt but might give Money DB a try. I personally find it very quick and handy getting all the information and summaries in one go without having to individually log into all my accounts.

Many have only implemented open banking in a minimal way. Banks are only required to make payment accounts (accounts from which payments can be made) available through open banking and many have have neglected to also make savings accounts and investment accounts available via open banking. Therefore often leaving screen scraping as the only way for aggregators to access these types of accounts. Whether that will improve is at the discretion of the banks.

Also, it appears quality of open banking APIs is variable. For example American Express have released an open banking API but I don't think any aggregators have started using it it, including the ones who who started switching to open banking APIs a long time ago (e.g. Yolt). That suggests to me it is probably unreliable.

Then the government may, or may not, remove that requirement. I doubt they will though, as they don’t really care about stuff like this. They only want out so that they can avoid paying their taxes.

None of the apps (including Yolt) requested any photos or proof of ID last week when I signed up - was this EU directive effective from the 1st Jan?

Not sure if they all do this, but MoneyDB lets you set the account type as current or savings for its groups - so even though I have TSB current accounts, I have set them as 'savings' so they appear with Marcus in the Savings section.
