Apps like Yolt

Yolt and other similar mobile apps, are they actually useful or just a convenient way of seeing info from all your added accounts in one shot?
i have 2 small accounts added to Yolt and i must say i do find it handy not having to login to each bank individually, which these days is not that inconvenient, with finger print enabled.

Neither Yolt nor any other app has tickled my fancy, mainly because they only show me the balance of my accounts and don't offer to log me into the actual accounts if I need to. Other issues are that none of them covers all the accounts I have, and that they are all awfully slow. Another issue is that none of the apps I have looked at, and I looked at many, is presenting the balance list in a simple format on one or two pages. They all go overboard with sexy designs which needlessly use up a massive amount of space.
I can do all my checking way faster manually, using the respective provider's app and FaceID. I do still miss AccountUnity though, which used to be near perfect but due to Open Banking has now died a death.:( Fellow AccountUnity users will know what I am on about.
These apps might be of use if you have got only a handful of accounts.0 -

The aggregator I use (Emma) does not replace the first-party bank apps on my phone but I find it a useful supplement for several reasons:
* Convenience for checking balances (although I would prefer it if the accounts list was presented differently - grouped by bank instead of by account type)
* Ability to add notes to transactions
* Enrichment of transaction data (merchant logos and better parsing of transaction codes into merchant names make it easier to identify old transactions - compared to just the sometimes obscure transaction codes presented by many banks)
* Ability to see dates of predicted upcoming subscriptions/bills across all accounts.
* Spending analytics by category
If I was forced to pay for it, I'd be willing to pay a couple of pounds a month.0 -
I use Emma. I used to use Yolt but found the performance was lacking when there are too many accounts to sync at once. I don't care much for the analytics personally but they are there if you want them. Otherwise I really only use it for a quick balance overview, and to check if SOs/DDs go out on the days they are supposed to. Any problems and I run straight to online banking for the bank affected. It's not really much of a time save if you only have 2 different banks, but with a dozen or so it makes life a bit easier.0

I use MoneyHub, quite pleased with it and the range of accounts you can get automatic feeds for, including mortgages and investment accounts.0

yolt now wants a picture of you some sort of new EU directive to combat fraud, there is no way i am doing that. I would only give that to my bank if necessary. this is NWO talking here.My Signature is MY OWN!!0

Oh yeah, the evil banks are gonna sell your picture for loads of money to the reptile people who will then turn you into one of them. It's inevitable0

The reason that Emma & Yolt are slow is because all of the banks are pretty slow. The average response time is over 800ms!
I can't post a link as a new member but if you search for 'Open banking api performance' you'll find a page that goes into some detail about response times & usage stats.0 -
omg, if it was 780ms i'd be ok with it buy 800 is ridiculous!
if people cant wait 1s, well then thats a sad state of affairs in life!0 -
I've been trying Emma, Yolt and MoneyDashboard (MoneyDB) for a few days (on iPhone, so not sure if available on Android).
Even though they do the same thing, there are differences (+ and -) for each, but I'm leaning towards MoneyDB.
It doesn't allow you to add all accounts (Tandem CC is missing) or any investment accounts (e.g. Vanguard/WealthSimple, like Emma can) or make direct payments/transfers via the app (like Yolt)
I prefer the simpler interface (relatively speaking) which I prefer without all the 'shouty' stats and suggestions, and it also allows you to tag/exclude transactions easier.0 -
Out of curiosity, can you add notes to transactions with Money Dashboard?
This is one of the things I like about Emma (I think Yolt may also have it), and has become an essential feature for me. I think the ability to add notes might have been missing from Money Dashboard when I tried it a year or two ago so would be interested to know if that has changed.0
