I read somewhere that Amazon have a new policy of insisting on ID for all deliveries o alcohol, even when the recipient is obviously over 18.

Quite why a driving licence wouldn't be an acceptable form of ID is a mystery, it has your name and photo on it, what more is needed?

And if it hasn't, because it's an old paper license, clearly the owner is old enough anyway :rotfl:

Cheek :rotfl:I actually had to change my license to a new photo one a few years back as the old paper one disintegrated.

My licence is mostly sellotape, very little paper left :)

Maybe the driver worked for Revolut previously. They had an extremely odd way of requesting photo ID when i repeated time after time that i do not have photo ID.
No problem just send a copy of your passport photo. Dont have one,
OK your photo driving licence, dont have one...
OK they requested a list of ID required by some countries... This is the UK and we do not have those documents available to us.

When i said forget it they eventually said just topup via the bank account i used to register.. more issues.. But they kept asking for photo ID even though i said i don't have any.

Mail and internet order companies are no doubt tightening up on delivering knives, alcohol, etc. as they are open to being prosecuted for supplying under age customers.

The seller should be doing this rather than dumping it on the delivery driver. Really the checks should be on ordering - only accepting credit cards and refusing debit cards would do this. Once they deliver to a house anyone can answer the door.

A bit off topic but I've just had an argument with the Amazon delivery guy about ID. He asked me for ID (I had bought some spirits and a high end electrical item) so I showed him my Driving license. He insisted it was not sufficient ID and kept waving his arms around saying 'card card' I asked him what card and he said 'local card for ID', I showed him a credit card but that was wrong again and he kept insisting I have a local card British for ID- I said I had nothing like that and if my Driving license was not sufficient he would have to take the stuff away again. he reluctantly made a note on his pad and I signed to say I had received the goods and he left muttering about people with no ID.

I have no idea what he wanted, my husband did wonder if he was from a European country that traditionally had some sort of Citizen or National card. He certainly was not a happy man and I don't think he was enjoying the work - poor man.

Some years ago, I tried to draw my mum's pension for her from the Post Office. She had signed to say that I was authorised to act on her behalf, and the ID I offered to the PO clerk was my RAF ID card. Photo, service number, DOB, height. What more could you ask for? Well, this was declined by the PO clerk as it wasn't on her list of 'acceptable ID'. When I asked her what was, she cheerfully replied that a membership card for the local bingo hall would be fine. I didn't have such a card - but later found out that they were just scraps of paper with the bingo hall logo and a hand written name on them.

As far as I know they don't need ID just to know that the parcel is signed by someone over 18, if alcohol.
From my experience of Amazon in the last month it's a surprise when any of their staff know what they're doing!

Well I have another bottle due to arrive today (the sloe gin on offer yesterday) so I'll wait to see what they ask for this time.

An update: my sloe gin was delivered and my OH opened the door. Amazon delivery driver insisted on ID again specifying card with photo, my OH who is a typical grumpy old man explained he has no photo ID (he does still have an old fashioned paper license) and asked to see the requirement for photo ID at his own front door for items he had ordered.

Driver agreed to take a signature again then just gave him the parcel and left.
