Can someone please tell me why ever night at just before or just after midnight my home hub 6 reboots itself, resulting with my speed dropping to 2-3MB when previously it was 7-8MB?

So when does it increase back up to 7-8

Not much info there, but best guess is it's getting updates, then going into retraining. Can you see if the software version changes after the reboot?

That sounds like it's trying to update the firmware and failing to me, give BT a call. They can run tests and check for you in moments rather than two dozen people on here all suggesting different fixes.

Is it the hub rebooting or the ADSL sync dropping?

Every now and again the connection between modem and Exchange cabinet drops and re-syncs, that's all planned and normally happens overnight. However, this shouldn't happen on a daily basis, so it is worth checking with your ISP (if the connection is 'noisy', it may be re-negotiating more frequently than it should).
