    Try downloading What3Words.
Then spend at least as long explaining what it is and how to spell "Aubergine.Manatee.Verdant" to a taxi driver whose English language skills are sub-optimal over the flaky mobile hands-free he's called you on while doing 40mph.

That sounds a lot like an acknowledgement that you're only wasting your breath on it the majority of the time now, instead of all of the time.

Im pretty sure emergency services do/may use what 3 words (apparently my friend used it with an ambulance in the summer as she lives in the middle of nowhere).

I second making a little sign of your own and just giving directions. "Drive to ^PLACE EASILY FOUND WITH GOOGLE MAPS^ then ^insert more specific directions^". Although its worth asking someone if they use what 3 words as in some areas they might (loads of my friends use it, at least, maybe its caught on in some places and not others).

There are plenty of locations where post codes take you to the wrong place (i.e. most of the countryside).

I live tucked away at the end of a long cul de sac. If I'm expecting a lift I just wait at the end of the road and wave them down.

I have it but Parcelforce don't and I'm not confident that Devon ambulance service or fire service would use it.

I'm glad the house we're buying is six years old.

If you're particularly concerned about how the emergency services cope with such addresses, have you tried asking them?

They are, after all, regularly called to locations which don't have a postal address (and never will) so I expect they can manage.

So how well does W3W work with no mobile data available, anyway?

You can download the database and use it offline.

Or just convert the address into more sensible coordinates before you set off.

For deliveries put alternative drop location as the show room.

The view from the main road that our road runs off is unmade and is often full of diggers etc. so it really looks like a building site

Delivery Drivers and similar will be using Sat Nav to find your address so they probably come to the entrance to your road see it looks like a building site and think "nope" and drive off.

So even if there was a sign I doubt it would make any difference at all because they won't be looking for signs they just look at the Sat Nav and still won't enter what looks like a building site because it's easier for them to just say they can't find it.

But I would have thought a local taxi firm would have been more accommodating and sensible enough to pass directions on to their driver to let them know where you are.
