Sorry to piggy-back on the thread, but what would one do with a similar pile of coins from the eighties that are now no longer in use? - old size 5p etc?

They're no longer worth anything at face value, just whatever anyone is prepared to pay for them. ebay?

I had £25 of old florins, (10p or 2 shillings). I bank with Lloyds so bagged them up and they were happy to take them

I have taken upward of £200 into a bank in various bank coin bags. Just do it at £100 per week or something. I stopped collecting coins because it was a PITA to sort out, now I tend to go cashless as much as possible, apart from an emergency tenner in my wallet.

pb3 - you may well have some old style £1 coins in your bottle. Bag them separately.
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

Suspect not, coins are 20p or lower.
  • I have a 3ltr brandy bottle almost full of 20p's I think that when full it'll have around £400-£450 in, I'm hoping when the time comes to cash in Lloyds are still kind to me to take it one go.

One tip for filling the bags is to use weight rather than counting if you have a digital gram scale:
1p coin weighs 3.56g. 100 per bag to give £1 total. Bag weight = 356g

2p coin weighs 7.12g. 50 per bag to give £1 total. Bag weight = 356g

5p coin weighs 3.25g. 100 per bag to give £5 total. Bag weight = 325g

10p coin weighs 6.5g. 50 per bag to give £5 total. Bag weight = 325g

20p coin weighs 5g. 50 per bag to give £10 total. Bag weight = 250g

50p coin weighs 8g. 20 per bag to give £10 total. Bag weight = 160g

£1 coin weighs 8.75g. 20 per bag to give £20 total. Bag weight = 175g

£2 coin weighs 12g. 10 per bag to give £20 total. Bag weight = 120g

So you changed them for 10p each? That seems abit stupid considering they sell for atleast 5 times that amount each on Ebay!.

I had nearly £1k in £2 coins and put all that in coin bags and deposited to Lloyds. Natwest also have the machines in bigger branches but not sure if they charge?

No charge but you need to be a customer as the money is credited to your bank account.
