High energy use help?

Hello all we switched to Bulb from British Gas as out bills were quite high. Bulb said they would be cheaper but our place STILL has high bills. We seem to be paying around £90 a month for a one bedroom council bungalow (Monthly payments £92.49 Average monthly usage
£81.63).
I don't understand with just two of us. Friends who have similar places pay a lot less. What are we doing wrong? We have radiators so maybe that is the expensive thing?

The council don't seem to help and nor do Bulb (they are very hard to get answers from. Lots of broken promises!)

Thanks all

Forget monthly DDs, think annual kWh from actual meter readings.

If you're using electricity for heating it will cost you a fortune.

    Sounds good to me!
Get a smart meter and see when you are using it if you do not know.

Some people/properties use a lot more.
You should know where you can cut down if you could already. Anything heating. Showers (especially electric ones in a house with gas), heating, kettles, cooking. Everything else is minor.

It isn't for the council or your energy supplier to figure out why your bills are higher than you expected.

You need to be looking at ways you can reduce your energy consumption.

By radiators do you mean Storage Radiators or the very modern thin panel type (that cost a fortune to run) ? Or the wet ones supplied by a gas (or electric) boiler ?

Give us you actual meter readings for the last year please together with your tariff.

Hi Carrot007. Yes we got a smart meter but the monitor never changed. It has always said "electricity used £1.66". We got on to Bulb again and again and again and again..... No help.

We have no gas in our village. But yes I have a ten minute shower each day. And yes we have heating, kettles, cooking to worry about.

Wish they would just sort out monitor out!

    Cheers

TURN stuff off as said it will be the heating as the main user .

Meter readings your actual bills what do they show .
  • Hi,

    are you on E7?

Any idea of your daily usage?

As you're concerned just now, take a reading morning and night for a few days to try and identify usage.

    Come back, let us know,

Forget the IHD toy - disconnect and put it into the back of a drawer

So no gas - what is your electric heating as per my post #5

Knocking your ten minute shower down to a five minute one will save you a pretty penny.

That's about £160 per year for just two people (assumes 13p/kWh and 10kW instantaneous shower).
