You’ve had excellent advice here, Katie. Buy a saw for £5 and you can use a sharp kitchen knife to cut the fabric. It’s amazing how easy it is to reduce modern beds and sofas to practically nothing at all. The bits may fit in the bin, but it’s obviously better to recycle the wood and metal bits.

  • I don't drive unfortunately , so I had to go on my councils website .
I actually phoned them , and arranged a pickup within the earliest slots available . They came yesterday at a cost of £30.
Now I'm expecting a delivery of a new sofa anytime within the next 3 hrs. Hoping it fits in my small flat :o

    Good luck

  • I was going to give my sofas to the British heart foundation , but it had to have a fire resistant sticker on there apparently . They were leather and over 20 years old .
When I got my reclining armchair and chair beds for visitors , they have the fire resistant labels which I have kept just in case a few yers down the line a charity shop will accept them .
Something to bear in mind .

The labels need to be sewn in.

  • Our council charge £32 for 5 items......

    "Bulky item collections

£32 for up to 5 items
    £64 for 6 to 10 items
You can pay by credit or debit card.

Only have a couple of items? If you and your neighbour only have a couple of items that need removing, why not do a joint bulky waste order and share the cost?

Please note that the service is not available to businesses or landlords.

we've had our current sofas for 7 years theyve lived through the kids being babies and up to now so they're not in great condition.
We had to have our front window removed to get them in the house as we have an awkward porch door.

We will be ordering new sofas on the weekend again we'll have to have the window out to get these in and old ones out.

But what do we do with the old ones? They are good for nothing and need to be destroyed/recycled or something? Council do pick up but say no excessivelt heavy or bulky items - well i assume this rules them out and it is a big heavy corner sofa and 4 seater.

    Any suggestions welcome?

    Thanks

Break them up and burn them

We broke up our DDs large sofa and made two trips to the tip in her Fiesta.
