Help please with a Amazon Firestick.

Hello,
I have just purchased a Amazon Firestick last Friday when the Mk 2 version was on offer for £30-.
I have got fed up with the normal TV channels and hope to get some better viewing with the Firestick.
Could the more up to date techies point me in the direction of what is free and what not with the stick?
Is is worth joining Amazon Prime to view more channels and is it worth the money?
Any other advice for other options etc would be most appreciated.
Thanks for any/all replies

I have had prime for a food few years now and love the next day delivery!

There is a good variety of films available with prime, there is a prime marker on those included and a price for those that aren't, usually £3.49 I think??

There are loads of tv shows to choose from.

I think for £79 it is great value!

There is a free trial so you can check it out for a month and see what you think

Amazon prime, like Netflix etc is a mixed bag, I have it and like some of the programmes, as suggested try the free trial and see, plus of course over the Christmas period free delivery could be a useful bonus

At the moment Prime TV has all episodes of The Crown which could be handy over the holidays, as could South Park;)

I opted for the monthly DD version as I may dip in & out as I do with Netflix

There is hardly any free service worth using (apart from the FreeView channels catch up TV apps). Most of the apps that are labelled "free" are actually trials or require purchases.

Amazon Prime is OKish as a stand alone streaming service, good value if you shop on amazon a lot and want free fast shipping. The free content is somewhat limited, almost all of it apart from the Amazon originals is also available on Netflix.

If it's a choice between Netflix and Amazon Prime - I would pick Netflix every time. (I have both)

There is a reason why Netflix is the most popular streaming service.

The most annoying bit in the Prime app is that 4K/UHD is a separate item/title and often you have to fish it through search as for some reason even when watching on a 4K TV most of the recommendations come as their HD variant. Netflix just automatically adjusts the quality based on your TV resolution.

I use Amazon Prime and have a Firestick, I thought The Crown was only available on Netflix. Certainly I haven’t noticed it as being available for free via the Firestick.

The Firestick doesn't give you free Prime video, your Prime subscription does.

Now I’m confused. I pay £79 for an Amazon Prime subscription and have a Firestick. Can I watch The Crown for free without subscribing to Netflix?

    The Crown is on Netflix.
Netflix charge for their services, with 30 day trial.
You can install Netflix on your Firestick if it's not there already and sign in with your Netflix details.

The firestick is just a means of getting Netflix, it doesn't give you automatic access to it, it's like buying a car doesn't give you automatic access to drive it. Likewise the stick doesn't automatically give you access to Prime, its just a means of getting it (and because it's an Amazon service on an Amazon device, it will actively nag you to get Prime if you don't have it already).

As I originally thought. I cannot watch The Crown without Netflix so a reply earlier in the thread was somewhat misleading.

It will tell you a price to pay if its chargeable.
To get a lot more will have to subscribe to Prime Video.

I still use an old Firebox from 4 years ago now getting Alexa on the voice remote, last used two years ago. Just had 30 day trial for 5th time now paid first £8 and now got another 30 day trial.

Havent even switched Netflix on since about August, must cancel it.
