Re:- Problem with Hotpoint Fridge/ Freezer

Hi there,
I'm hoping someone can give me some advice please.
Bought a Hotpoint Fridge Freezer from Currys September 2018, it cost about £600.
4th November 2019 got up and the fridge was warm but freezer working. Contacted Currys initially but they didn't want to know, as the appliance was out of it's 12 month warranty.
Contacted Hotpoint and arranged for an engineer visit, couldn't get an appt till 18th November. Engineer came and he said that a pipe at the back hadn't been insulated properly and was blocked, had to leave it off for 48 hours, did that and appliance has been working fine for the last 3 weeks. Woke up this morning and found the fridge temperature rising again, but freezer still working fine. Have had to relocate chilled goods to mini fridge and make arrangements for parents to take frozen food again in anticipation of the appliance needing to be switched off. Engineer is coming Wednesday 11th December.
I was forced to take out a care and repair policy with Domestic & General for £9.49 a month for the next 12 months, which I'm glad I did, as a one off repair was £120. Wasn't anticipating needing a repair again so soon though.
My question is:- were Currys right to wash their hands of it and would I be entitled to a replacement item if it needs persistent repairs, as it's only a few months old?
Thanks in advance

It's more than a few months old, isn't it? 15 months old?
If the original technician said the pipe should have been insulated and wasn't, that sounds like an inherent fault to me. You could try going back to Curry's with that information and make a claim. If they accept the fault was inherent, you'd be entitled to their choice of a repair, a replacement or a refund, with the latter two adjusted to take into account 15 months of use, so a reduced refund or a replacement to that value.0
