School did not inform me of my child having a cold press on eye

Got back home today and my son told me he had a cold press on his eye. It looks very very slightly different to the other eye, it may or may not have been after school club. Now I know things happen at school, but is there a policy of schools having to inform parents? Are the obliged to or is it discretionary? I'm not the…
