Debit card fraudulent transactions

Hello all,

I noticed this morning two transactions from a company called WebTransact for 6.46 pounds.

I called the bank and they blocked the card and have reissued me with a new card. Thats all well and good but the bank have been unable to give me any further information.

They have said the only details they have is they are called WebTransact and it was an international payment.

I used a Danske bank ATM machine on Friday and withdrew 10 pounds. These transactions came out early Tuesday morning. I have only used this card in Asda and the Spar.

I gave my card details to Transunion to obtain my credit file. I bought gifts on Friday from Amazon but thats really the only time I have used the card.

I am at a loss as to how they even got my details. Don't they also need the CVC number to process transactions?

Worried this could happen again in the future, only next time for an even greater amount.

Especially for such a small amount, the bank won't be interested in investigating and even if they did know more would be unwilling to divulge further details to you - they'll simply refund you (they have done this, right?) and stop/reissue the card.

There's no point in worrying about exactly how/when/why it happened, just continue taking the usual precautions with your card(s) and details, most bank websites will have a security section explaining what their expectations would be....

They haven't refunded me yet. They said I need to complete a form and send it to them before they will do that.

If it was an international payment, what currency was it made in?
The bank will be able to give you the full contact details of the merchant.

Probably not worth making a big fuss for the sake of six quid, but they're not actually allowed to do that, as per https://www.fca.org.uk/consumers/unauthorised-payments-account:
Your bank may ask you to answer some questions and fill out a form confirming what has happened, but it cannot delay your refund while it waits for you to return the form
    Which bank is it?

    Santander.
  • Had the same thing this morning! 9.69 came out (12.49 USD) at 1am, have no idea where it’s from and Santander were no hope at all.

Not been on any website that offer a free trial to view films/tv programs or such?

Or allowed someone else in the household to do so?

Not had any popup's while on social media?

Pretty sure that this is a payment processing company for a lot of subscription services. Can be dating sites. Some of which may be of a very adult nature.

Clearly they feel there maybe some customer involvement, which does allow them to withhold a immediate refund.
Bit unusual where it is customer not present though.

No, I am very careful with my card details. Obviously not careful enough however.

Probably being paranoid but at the ATM machine a guy let me go in front of him as we both approached at the same time. I always shield my pin number however.

Card only used then in Asda and the Spar, thats really it.

I bought gifts off Amazon on Friday night for Xmas. Used it last week to buy an electricity top up like I normally do. Other than that its always with me.
  • Same here. Santander banker

Webtransact USD $7 payment when I was fast asleep at 22:50 last night, there had clearly been a Santander data breach!!!

Spent the last 30 mins worried what compromising action I had taken until I found this thread - annoying still going to be a huge inconvenience getting a new card issued when no fault of my
