Breached lease renting on Air B n B

Did you not know the cost of the ground rent and service charge when you bought it? I appreciate you have had an additional £2,500 yearly bill added, but could that be paid for by taking in a lodger? You can earn up to £7500 pa tax free (AFAIK).
Do you have a mortgage? Are you earning less than when you applied for it? It just seems a bit strange to be drowning in debt when having to find an extra £200pm. Have you had pay increases since buying it? Or is it a recent purchase?
Definitely agree with heading over to the debt management board as it doesn't sound like you're managing your money too well (no offence meant - we've all been there!).2024 wins: *must start comping again!*0 -
No wonder the service charge is high, if the building has a concierge...0

Yes but the cladding is the real bummer. Since grenfell it's becomea big issue. The gov was supposed to help but not sure if that's just with council blocks....0

Sure, but I think the OP's fallen foul of assuming that income will always cover expenditure profitably, with zero backup resources.Yes but the cladding is the real bummer. Since grenfell it's becomea big issue. The gov was supposed to help but not sure if that's just with council blocks....
That's a dangerous recipe with very high service charges, even before high other unexpected costs combine with an income hiatus - as they're finding out...
I think the best starting point here is going to be the OP moving in, and probably finding additional income sources.0 -
Of course, it could be that some of the Air B&B people have been noisy or caused some other nuisance to the neighbours. You know how people can be when they're just staying somewhere for a couple of days.
Having said that, I realise it's not hurrah for you OP. I think the suggestion of taking a lodger might be worth exploring.0 -
Is anyone else there on Air BnB? You might be the competition and they are reporting youAn answer isn't spam just because you don't like it......0

That would be a remarkably stupid and self-defeating move, you'd have thought.diggingdude wrote: »Is anyone else there on Air BnB? You might be the competition and they are reporting you0 -
We found out someone was AirBnbing because the neighbours complained.
They had concerns about safety (the guests were given the security codes to gates etc), parking (guests didn't understand/weren't told about marked spaces) and being woken because guests couldn't get in. We spoke to the owner and agreed a date a couple months in advance as he had bookings and he agreed to take the ads down
One of the first things we and our MA did was to search AirBnB for any other properties on our estate
The MA won't have acted off their own back. They would be reacting to complaints - I'd be inclined to go with them coming from the neighbours. But, never having been a concierged building I don't know how much knowledge/influence they would have0 -
Honouring the remaining bookings is really taking the pee.cchurchill1986 wrote: »Yes the listing has been removed from Air B n B and I am accepting no new bookings.
The flat has been on the market for months, nobody will touch it because of the cladding issue.....
So I have an apartment which is a complete money pit which I am unable to sell....0
