It pays to read the back of your statements! T-mobile told us that we couldn't switch price plans even with the phoneboxdirect fiasco because their t&c's said that you have to be with the network for 11 months before changing tariffs. Checking the back of my latest statement it clearly said I could change after 6. The phone operators were having none of this so I went into store. The store made the phone call for me, confirming to the operator what the bill said and hey presto a reduced tariff....

Stick to your guns if you're in the same position. We went from £35 a month to £15 (OK so I took a hit on minutes but we weren't using them anyway).

    Hope this helps someone.
  • I too am a victim of phonebox direct. I have just telephoned T-Mobile and they immediately agreed to reduce my tariff from £35 per month to £15 per month, until the end of my contract which will be March next year. I have had to take a reduction in minutes but I don't use that many anyway. It certainly is worth contacting your provider. Good luck to everyone else who tries.
  • What is the tarrif they downgrade you to? How many texts and minutes?

    Thanks

The £15 tariff I downgraded to was the u-fix 15. As I recall 50mins talk, 25 texts per month then top-up in a PAYG style. It's enough for me (just although they are now charging for voicemail retrieval!!!).

Having said that, because my invoice stated that I could change priceplans after 6 months it meant I could have changed to whatever I wanted.

Check your invoice if you've been with them for 6 months.

I contacted T-Mobile, and the best they'd offer me was £5 off per month :(. I've been with them for 4 months. Am I locked into not being able to down grade if I take the £5 offer?

    Thanks!
  • I arranged a phone for me and my dad for £35/mth, less than 6 months ago. My dad was offered the £5 line rental discount. When I called, I negotiated a reduced contract, bring my bill down to £25/mth. I then asked for this to be applied to my dads account also. Worked for us. I will also asked for a further reduction after 6mths. Good luck;)
  • Same experience here. A senior adviser said that £5 off was "what they are doing", no chance of a downgrade. I'm 5 1/2 months in and had only read the '11 months for downgrade clause' so believed this to be fair enough. But after reading this thread and checking the back of my latest bill.. i rang again, quoting '..change after 6 months', and i changed from £35 to £20 (from FlexT35 to FlexT25 - they seem to be giving the current £5 off line rental promotional discount too). The lady was even pro-active in giving me all her details (name and team number) which was nice and refreshing.
  • I too have been hit by this. Only two days prior to the 14th, I'd finally received the next of many "you have passed over this cashback hurdle" emails, from CNM...

So, given there's no longer any point in sending in the cash back forms.. I've phoned T-mobile..
Response "Never heard of them. They're not on my list, so I can't offer you 5 % off".

Next step is what other names did CNW go under, so I can phone T-mobile back see if any of those names are on the list and if I can come in...
    Anybody know any?
(Surely the names of newly 'down' companies have to get on the list somehow for a first time!)

I'm asserting that the networks have a moral responsiblity, if not a legal one. Surely they can't just sit there and wash there hands of these resellers, who are responsible for bringing them ten's of thousands of pounds of new business, when one goes under, can they?

Well T-mobile will have on thier records the dealer who sold you your contract, it should come up as mobile media systems if you were with coolnewmobile.

I have been able to get £5 off my £35 flext tariff, but no reduced tariff by calling 150.
The advisor had not heard of PBD nor CNM but she gave me the discount anyway! I think I had been put through to normal customer services as opposed to Customer Relations as I also had a general billing inquiry at the time.

Think my next step will be to email customer relations. Not sure if the reduced minutes is enough for me though!
