Just rang Scottish Power to switch to their cheapest deal and they told me I couldn't do it over the phone even though on my online account it told me to ring them to get a better deal, this morning they told me I could only change to the cheaper tariff on a comparison web site. I was angry because when I rang them initially to open an account after trying to join them on a comparison web site and I had a query about joining them, I rang them and they told me I couldn't have the tariff over the phone I was quoted for on line and that's how I ended up paying more! I have now done the switch through MSE Cheap Energy Club and will be saving £190. This has dropped my monthly DD down from £57.27 to £43.25 per month with a £25 cash back fixed to Dec 2020. I told them they have given me a right run around and it doesn't endear me to staying with them ! I will have to stay for the time being but I did notice that SSE was cheaper as another poster on this forum said and I will be looking at their rates when this one comes to an end. Thanks for all the help on this thread, it has saved me £190 !!

Make sure that you keep submitting meter readings and checking that you are not building up a large debit amount.

£43 per month really isn't a lot and if you use more then that you will still have to pay the difference back.

Op, as above, if you are using as much gas as estimated, then it will be a lot more than £43 a month over the 12 months, unless you mean gas only.
Similar to you, I found out that as an existing EDF customer they had a cheaper rate available to me, but only if I switched through a comparison site. I've switched to Bulb who are cheaper than the cheaper rate by only a few £ over 12 months, but don't want to stick with a company that messes me around.

So where did the £90 DD come into things ? (as your initial post)
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

That was what I was paying about 4 yrs ago before I left the UK. I am prepared to obviously have to pay more than £43 but at least I am in control of the best deal on offer now and will be able to regularly review my payments and the balance outstanding and after 12 months history to enter the actual energy usage for 12 months can better choose the cheapest deal with more accurate readings.

Keep a close eye on your account. I dont think you will be paying enough but time will tell.
