Just out of interest I checked my online account and after entering the meter readings yesterday my account has been updated with current bills and on both bills it states that the cheapest tariff is the Super Saver Dec 2020 B3 but they recommended I go on Saver Dec 2021 Em1 when i rang to join them 7 weeks ago ! It seems I am not on the cheapest tariff after all and could save £104.46 on Gas and £89.45 on Elec. I shall be ringing them tomorrow to switch my tariff over if this is the case.

My current tariffs are : Electricity (including standing charge) = 0.38163p + VAT
Gas (including standing charge) = 28.143 + VAT

    Is this cheap or expensive?

You need to split out the kwh and standing charge rates so we can see what you are paying. I'm guessing that you dont really spend 0.38613p for leccy because thats really really cheap, if it was £0.38163 then it would be 38pp/ kwh which is very expensive. The same with your gas

I pay 15p/day standing charge and 12p/kwh for my leccy, which which with my 7000+ a year works out at an annual average of roughly 12.8p/kwh but if I only used 3000kwh a year it would work out at 13.8/pkwh so you cant just roll up the s/c with the kwh rate you need to do some sums.

I dont use gas but AFAIK a resaonable figure could be around 20-25p a day s/c and around 3p/kwh

You seem determined to restrict yourself to what SP has to offer - there are over 50 companies out there looking for your business. Use a comparison site -, do three comparisons - 1 for gas, 2 for elec and 3 for gas and elec combined.

Indeed, one aspect of the "cheapest way to heat a home" is to buy the energy required at the best price possible and check regularly that that is still the case.

I did explain earlier that I did the a comparison web site and when I rang SP after choosing them they told me they don't use figures from the comparison web site when I told them what I was quoted as paying per month on the comparison site. They changed the tariff and the monthly DD to much lower which is why I thought I had a good deal. Then when the welcome letter came it quoted the usage by the previous tenant which pa was much lower usage than I had previously used 3 yrs ago.

I am also registered on the "Cheap Energy Club" on this web site for regular updates but it takes a while for the switch to take effect and for them to notify you to change I believe.

I was told by someone else to add the rate and s/c together with the VAT to get the total cost, that was why I did it that way, but by splitting out the charges this was the basic cost of each on the bill: Elec: £0.16883p and Gas £3.493p. The standing charge for each was Elec. £0.21280 and Gas £0.24650. I can't provide an annual usage as I have only been back in the country for 7 weeks.

Sorry but as I have stated previously, I don't have an annual consumption figure as I have only been back in the country for 7 weeks.

I'm sorry I had been reading your posts that you had been with SP for 3 years and switched tariffs in Oct 19.

Although you don't have annual figures - what were opening reads with SP in Oct and what are they now ?
