MSE credit search on my file

Today, I receive a notification from Equifax stating.....
MONEYSAVINGEXPERT & CAPITAL ONE , a Credit Card company, has made an inquiry against your credit report on 26/11/2019 . If you were not aware of or did not consent to this search, contact MONEYSAVINGEXPERT & CAPITAL ONE or Equifax for clarification.
I've never subscribed before to MSE and haven't had a CO card/loan etc..Why would this happen.. any ideas?

    Have you applied for a capital one card or used a card eligibility checker on mse or elsewhere?

    Have you used credit club to check your credit file?

    I thought MSE credit club used Experian?

    I’d like to know the answer too as I’ve had the same search done, although I do use MSE credit club to check my Experian credit report.
    Unsure why the search has appeared on my Equifax report though, and I definitely haven’t applied for a Capital One card either...

    They may show your Experian report for free but I don't think that precludes them from soft searching the other two CRAs if you're checking your eligibility.

    I haven’t checked my eligibility for a credit card though? I use MSE credit club just to check my credit report, nothing else.

    Fairly sure they do a soft search anyway, even if you don't check your loan/CC eligibility regularly
