Stolen Number Plates

  • 1. Buying them doesn't alert the real owner therefore more time to bilk/rob before anyone catches on.

    2. Those cheap eBay plate sellers don't keep records of who bought what plus the cops won't be able to trace once they have recovered the plate as they are not registered plate sellers with the DVLA.

But if they're "road legal" as you claimed they have a postcode on them.

I have a cheap eBay rear plate on the daily, bought about 3yrs ago.
I don't remember providing any proof of ID or entitlement - I may have done.
It has a manufacturer's postcode on (Bradford, IIRC).

Chances are if they are close enough to read the post code on the plate, they have probably caught the bandits.

Worth mentioning you can buy tamper proof screws to attach your number plates to your vehicle. Make it a lot more difficult, although not impossible, to steal your plates in the first place.

I hate screwing number plates, I always prefer to stick them on with sticky pads. Looks cleaner plus screws tend to rust and make the car look a mess after some time.

You're using the wrong ones, then.

Still look a mess especially if they overlap the letters and numbers which involves drilling unnecessary holes to avoid it.

No screws = cleaner look to the car.

It's important for an old focus to have a clean look.

Which is why there's black ones. But a bit of thought before fixing...

The blue ones are for the EU flag strip.

'course, most other EU countries manage to do it far more intelligently. They screw a plate holder to the car, then fit the plate into that, Sticky pads are illegal in many countries - some require pop rivets.

I've got 4D plates on with sticky pads. Screwing screws into them will just spoil the clean look.

OK, what do you drive? And if it's old does it not matter how it looks?
