Stolen Number Plates

Go and buy yourself a couple of stickers, smiley face etc, something visible. Put one in the back window of your car, one somewhere on the front.
If the clone car is racking up fines etc you have something that now makes your car unique and easier to identify.0 -
Not sure if this has been covered but you could also do something to make it easier to differentiate your car, in case its used on a vehicle of the same make/model/colour.
For example if your old plates were just plain, you could have had a flag/country identifier added (or if the old plate had one, then have it removed). You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -

A quite a lot of petty crime is largely pointless and pretty stupid.
Most criminals aren't very smart.0 -
I had my plates from a Ford Transit a few years back. Got crime reference number and told DVLA.
And nothing at all happened. Because the plates were reported stolen, (which happens all the time) I didn't get any visots from the police, wasn't stopped etc.
Get new plates and put them on with anti-tamper screws to minimise the chance of them being stolen again.
You're over reacting.Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0 -
Well a neighbour had her plates stolen and next thing you know she was held in Tesco while the police were called as they said she had previously driven off without paying (which actually was someone now using the stolen plates to get free fill-ups). Of course that incident was sorted out but not a nice experience. I don't know what else has happened as I don't see her much to talk to.0

Must be real desperate crooks or really dumb ones or both. I've bought new "road legal" plates many time off eBay without giving proof that I'm entitled to do so.0

But (dopy) criminals don't like paying for things if they can nick them.Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.0 -

Why buy the when nicking them doesn't cost and there's no line of enquiry back to you're home address. Really dumb to suggest buying a number plate to commit crime.0 -
Worth mentioning you can buy tamper proof screws to attach your number plates to your vehicle. Make it a lot more difficult, although not impossible, to steal your plates in the first place.

1. Buying them doesn't alert the real owner therefore more time to bilk/rob before anyone catches on.
2. Those cheap eBay plate sellers don't keep records of who bought what plus the cops won't be able to trace once they have recovered the plate as they are not registered plate sellers with the DVLA.0
