    One other thing to add: your hotmail account can itself filter out spam. You'll have to do this (initially) by logging in directly to hotmail from a browser. There's a guide here:

    The drawback with this is that you will be stuck with periodically going into Hotmail directly to ensure that junk mail is being caught but legitimate mail is getting through. There's something to be said for having all your filtering occur at a single point in the chain, rather than at two points (email service and client); however if you're ever reading mail on restricted bandwidth you'll appreciate having the email service cut down the volume before your client starts downloading.
