I would say that due to the move finances are tight and you can't offer them any money for the items but if they would like to leave them you will be happy to accept them.

It is more hassle then it is worth for the vendor to disassemble them and remove them.

We left a few things for the FTB's that bought our property (with their permission) as we had nowhere to put them in our new house. They were very thankful of the items as it was less for them to buy on their limited budget.

You've exchanged on the property deal. That's all legally binding.

So now it's a completely separate deal that you're looking at. Do you want to pay that much for that stuff?

Why not suggest that you dont fancy buying them but if they leave those items it saves them getting rid and you can decide what to keep or not?

When I bought my house the vendors told us we could buy a cooker and dishwasher, I just ignored the request and they were left.

  • The second hand value of most wardrobes etc is very low, especially when transport or disposal costs are included as part of the cost of selling.

The fact that they are actually offering them and that you know they are moving abroad tells me that they don’t really want them and they are in a very weak position.

Frankly, the price sounds crazy. IKEA wardrobes are not expensive. Sounds to me like they are chancing their arm because you took the bait on the first wardrobe (£3000 quid! Seriously???? They must have been REALLY suitable - I suppose it’s possible.)

If it was me, I’d offer a fairly nominal price (like 10% of asking max). Bet you get left with them even if you offer nothing.
  • they want you to buy them
they dont want to go through the hassle of getting rid of them (selling on facebook when you have loads of other things to do is not a fun pastime)
i suspect price is not a major factor as they already have valued them as a negative number by indicating that they will dispose of them - ie it will cost them money not to leave them.
I would get an agreement with them as to what you want - ie you buy them for next to nothing, get them for free or they remove them and make good any damage. Whatever you decide its better to clearly agree it with them so there are no surprises / unexpected issues after completion.

Pax is their fitted wardrobe range.

And, yes, they can quickly get expensive...

OP said it was the unfitted Pax range they have been offered. They can be bought pretty cheap secondhand so I think the vendors are really asking way too much for all the items. I guess though if they all match and it saves some hassle in replacing them it might be worth it. I would probably offer £500 for the lot. Pax wardrobes aren't the best quality. But if I was really strapped for cash I would just use a clothes rail for a bit until I could choose furniture that I actually wanted.

Why wasn't the light fitting on the F+F list? Surely they will have to leave something there rather than bare wires?

Definitely that - my last buyers said they didn't want my smart American style fridge freezer. I was really surprised tbh. I'd not asked a lot for it. Around £100 (maybe even £80). I still wonder whether they were hoping I'd just leave it. Would have saved me the whole lot of hassle of selling it and having someone cart it off (leaving me with nothing for the last few days in that house). Was also a pain to get out - had to take the f/f doors off and the angles were a nightmare to get it out the house. They never travel well anyway, and even if they were getting a brand new one, they were probably going to be without one for a little while, and they had a baby.

They can replace it with a ceiling rose and lightbulb for a few quid. We brought light fittings with us that cost several hundred pounds and aren't made anymore.

There's a good chance some of the stuff will be left by the vendor. We've just bought a secondhand dishwasher from somebody who brought his own from his old house as his vendor said they were taking theirs with them but left it behind. We've bought the one the vendor left and he's installed his own.
