in Credit cards
I recently made a purchase on amazon for £129.99. I used my normal debit card and there was money in there.
Today I logged into my account and noticed the £130 was still in there. I checked amazon and can see that for some reason they payment wasn’t taken from my debit card so they used a back up card which was my capital one card.
The thing is, I only have a couple of pounds available on this card yet they’ve let it go. I’ve spoken to them, the payment has hit my account and showing on my list of recent transactions. My available to spend is 0.00 but balance is approx £1 below the limit.
I am not really sure what’s happening, the guy I spoke said my current balance is definitely including the amazon purchase and I won’t go over.
Does anyone have any idea what’s happened?
Thanks

Check your transactions and see if they add up correctly to the amount showing.0

I bought a laser printer from Amazon yesterday for about £150.
My Amazon credit card is my default card; however the payment was taken from my Tesco credit card, which was the last card I'd used with Amazon.
Not a huge problem for me, other than missing out on about £2 cashback.
My guess is your transaction has hit your Capital One account but its value hasn't been reflected in the balances.
If I were you I'd make a payment towards the Capital One credit card to bring its balance under the account's credit limit.0 -
There appear to be two completely separate problems here which have coincidentally occurred in respect of the same transaction.
With regard to Amazon, my only suggestion is that you accidentally selected the wrong card. I really can't understand why this would have occurred otherwise. Perhaps the above post will help explain something. Could somehow Amazon still be set to debit the last card used?
With regard to Capital One, you say that you only had a couple of pounds of available credit so presumably you know what your balance was prior to the Amazon purchase debiting the account? Has there been a payment made? Have you had a credit limit increase? Are you sure there are no pending transactions still to be included in the balance? Otherwise, am really puzzled.0 -
Hi all, thanks for your responses.
The transaction has hit my account, it shows in the list of transactions. The guy in the complaints team at Cap 1 has confirmed I WILL NOT go over my limit and the balance includes the amazon payment (although I am not sure how)
Regarding my card, they tried to take it and couldn’t, not sure why, so the changed it to another card on the account. There has been no payments made to this card, no credit limit increase and no pending transactions.0 -

Received a new debit card and not updated the details with Amazon? Common problem when you get a new card with the same 16 digit number, but the expiry date is different.Life in the slow lane0 -
No, not had a new card. It’s a new account so only had one card with them.0

I was going to do that, but he categorically told me I would not go over my limit.
Guess what, today I have. And have a £12 charge. Needless to say I will be speaking to them.
Not operating it with a couple of quid to spend, I clear it every month, as the direct debit hasn’t gone yet that’s why it only had a small available balance. Not that it really matters, but just thought I’d clarify.0 -
Speak to the bank your "normal" debit card is with - ask them why the transaction wasn't taken.0
