Long time to hear about a PIP claim?

I posted my PIP form about 10 weeks ago (the sender got a proof of postage receipt) and haven't heard anything back yet, should I be concerned? From searching I see the average is 6 to 8 weeks for a response. I don't want to be rude and 'chase' them up. Incidentally, is an award backdated, as DLA I'm in receipt of finished earlier this month. I just like to know where I stand.

  • Chasing isn't rude..... many, many people do it and it's been a long time. Following up is important to get things moving sometimes
  • I would ring them up to at least check it’s in their system.
  • I waited 13 weeks after sending form in before my support worker rang to check progress the pip help line gave her a number for the assessment people and they booked in a assessment over the phone, god knows how long I would have waited with out them being phoned

She rang them a week ago and I have my assessment 9th of December so i would definitely call if I were you.. Use the number on any letter associated with your pip claim
  • Did you provide a mobile number for contact when you completed your form? My husband submitted his two weeks ago and we received a text message the following day to confirm they'd received it.

It seems that wait times of around 8/9 weeks are the norm at the moment, though I'd still want to be sure they'd received it and scanned it into their system. There's a current thread about a claim that was submitted but refused as it wasn't scanned in by the deadline so would be well worth following up with them in my opinion.

Has your DLA actually stopped? I thought that provided you made your PIP claim within the time frame set by the DWP the DLA payments would continue until the PIP claim has been decided.

Deadline for submitting the form was 13th of September if I recall, and DLA ended 17th of this month, so that's why I was wondering. I thought they might have it done by the expiry of the DLA, which is why I'm a little concerned.

Thanks for the replies, I'll look-up a number for them, and call them tomorrow to check. I just don't want to be a pest.

You need to contact the PIP line asap.
    PIP Contact Number: 0800 121 4433.
Hold on the phone until you get an answer, don't give up after 45 minutes or so.

Your DLA should not have ended (providing your PIP form was received within the timescales) until a decision was made on your PIP.

See para headed - When individuals will get the decision on a PIP claim
"Existing DLA claimants will continue to get DLA until a decision has been made on their PIP claim."

Something has gone wrong with the process.

If the deadline was 13th September when did you post It?

  • My Husband applied for a change in circumstances in July this year, he waited till Sept and phoned to ask what was happening, they received his form on the 7th August, they told him it was on the managers desk as they spoke and he should hear very soon. He received a letter from them on 22nd Nov to say he has a home visit from an assessor on the 9th Dec. He did not request a home visit, they didn't ask him to get a letter from his GP so thats a bit confusing as we both know how hard it is to get a home visit and to get one with out even requesting one is just weird, not sure if its a good or bad thing but hes not complaining of course and we will just have to wait and see how it goes.

Sometimes a letter from a GP isn't needed because there's enough of evidence. Having a home assessment doesn't mean anything other than it will take place in your own home, it's not a good or a bad thing.

My daughter had a home assessment when i first claimed PIP for her and i didn't need a letter from her GP.
