This is helping me to understand how a couple of Swedish parents have managed to get away with child abuse of their disabled daughter for 16 years. The latest being taking her away from her mental health support network for a year.

The UK has got to discuss social issues in a non political manner. There's no one single answer. As much as about community and culture as spending money we don't have.

The biggest problem people have is the inability to look around them and say things are alright

The UK has a mixed system of benefits and taxes
Not the highest or the lowest in the world

Overall you can live a decent life in the UK
Some people have problems but it's mostly down to addictions and dysfunctional lives

We have full employment and Wages are high (average full time employee earns £35,000 for a couple that's £70,000 income)
Also being a rich developed country we are able to pass £200 billion per year every year from older to younger in the form of homes shares businesses land etc via inheritances and gifting

Could thing be a bit better sure but are they quite good at the moment yes

Would you be willing to pay 55% income tax

If you have income over £50,000 a year you already do.
but all services are world class and homelessness is eradicated?
    Never going to happen.

If you go into a McDonalds, order a Big Mac and voluntarily hand over double the asking price, do you think they'll serve you prime steak?

People who think that increasing spending has any effect whatsoever on public services would say "yes, I paid more therefore it must be better". If you point out that it's still a Big Mac, they reply "but I paid more therefore it must be better".

It's called life. Anybody can suddenly be faced with an unexpected challenge. A more caring community based equitable society would be of great assistance. Doesn't require extreme socialist views either to implement. Just ordinary people living their daily lives in a different manner.

Nordic countries have very low population. That model won't work with UK, especially when quarter of whole world wants to come to UK.
Happiness is buying an item and then not checking its price after a month to discover it was reduced further.

If you want the votes and support of the right you're going to have to stop using nonsense sentences like this which mean nothing to people on the right. start explaining what the problem is and how you will deal with it and why all the others that have tried to address the problems in similar ways and failed but you won't

Seriously all you just said is 'lets be more caring'
There is a big fundamental difference between the right and the left
For the left it's good enough to say 'lets just be more caring' and your side all nod in agreement
While the right says '!!!!!! does that mean, give me ideas and ways to implement them not sound bites'

Of course, very few of us go through life without tragedies or issues at some point however the vast majority of us don't deal with such things by taking illegal drugs.

I for one don't have much sympathy for those that do become addicted to drugs and in particular don't want my taxes to increase in order to help people who made bad decisions in life.

Perhaps you would like to campaign for an opt-in tithe system? The likes of you and Arklight could voluntarily pay an extra 10% of your tax bill specifically to help the criminals, druggies and alcoholics. You get to feel good and ne'er-do-wells get support, sounds like a win/win to me or do you only want a more caring society if someone else pays for it?

    Who mentioned drugs?

PS. Drugs are very much the recreational choice of the liberal affluent middle class. Without the demand there'd be less associated anti social behaviour.
