The "Global Economy" which we are told we are part of leaves no room for isolationist philosophy and in any case the lion's share of that fare goes to someone who is probably just a "local cabbie". It's just that he pays his rent to Uber instead of to his local minicab outfit. But I am intrigued as to where it is you travel by cab. Your £7 Uber fare is probably for a journey of no more than two or three miles. When and where does a black cab charge a minimum of £35 for such a journey?
My nearest Tube Station to home is Heathrow Terminal 5, the Black cabs there have a minimum fare of £35 and If I go to the pick up/drop area I can get a Uber for between £6-£8 depending on surge charges. and you are correct the travel is 5 miles and away from London.0 -
Unless you happen to be sexually assaulted or murdered by an unvetted driver, or injured in an uninsured car.
I have already stated in a previous post I am a large confident male so I have never had that concern. I appreciate that concern is there for some but it does not factor into my decision on who to use.0 -

No but anyone at any time could be in a collision. Not worth worrying about, if you did you would never let anyone drive for you again.
You will come back with "but at least other firms check licences and have other procedures" and my response is....If I can continue to use the fantastic and cost effective service I have become accustom to then I will.
Look up Chris Halliwell, a double murdering sexual predator who trapped people in "conventional" taxi's, it happens, its not nice but its not exclusive to uber.0 -

There's your problem. I wouldn't start from there if I were you!:rotfl:0 -

Been thinking about this. On what basis do they make this demand? As far as I am aware a taxi which is standing at a rank or one that stops in the street when hailed must accept a fare if it is not more than twelve miles (or 20 if starting from Heathrow) and not more than one hour in duration. If such a fare is accepted it must be at the rate prescribed by the regulations. There is a small surcharge for journeys beginning from Heathrow, bt no minimum fare (other than the regular minimum of £3 - which becomes £5.80 with the Heathrow surcharge). But I may have missed something.0 -
Problem with Uber drivers is that they like to message you via the app to ask where you are going then they drop you like it's hot if they don't want your fare. Uber is full of have-a-go taxi drivers, you're best off booking a proper private hire company.0

Ive had plenty of black cabs refuse a journey. If they ain't going tha Y way then they won't take you. Never heard the saying "Don't go south of the river at this time of night"?TooManyPoints wrote: »Been thinking about this. On what basis do they make this demand? Ive never had that happen, they know where you are going when you book so they do not need to ask you. So im inclined not to believe that does happen.Deleted_User wrote: »Problem with Uber drivers is that they like to message you via the app to ask where you are going then they drop you like it's hot if they don't want your fare.
