Car Hire in USA

Options
Hi there,

Myself and my partner are going to the states in May 2020, we're looking to pick up a car from Houston and drop off at Washington D.C 20 days later, we'd like to both be able to drive the car too. We're aged 28 and 26, main driver being 28.

The cheapest I've been able to find is £840 for the trip, does anyone have any tips or tricks for me to get this cheaper? I'm aware that Black Friday is coming up too and if anyone knows of any car hire companies that will give a good deal during this time that'd would be greatly appreciated.

The one-way drop off fees will be bumping the cost up.
Have you considered internal flights instead of car hire?

I struggled last year Aug to get a car for less than £250pw

Using my goto for car hire.
    2-22may

autoeurope budget with extra driver and tank is best
    Houston return £580
with drop off in DC £820

sometimes if you do a matrix of dates and length you get a range or rates.
  • Have you looked at BA ? They give you the second driver free

We're wanting to stop at many cities internally, 10 in total and driving is the only way to get to some of them unfortunately. This year we did the west coast and was amazingly cheap to fly from city to city, not so lucky with our choices for next year.

It might have to be just one of those "once in a lifetime" trips so just deal with the cost!

P.S sorry first time posting on here so tried to reply directly but messed it up!

Yes I just saw that one today, think we might go with that one because it gives an extra driver free and full tank of fuel! Thank you :)
  • Has anyone else just noticed that Rental Cars have just bumped their prices up by £300+? Literally was £300 cheaper this morning. What do we reckon? Are they bumping them up so the discount for black Friday seems bigger?
  • It may be the currency risk due to the upcoming election in the UK that is upping the cost. Hopefully prices will stabilize after Dec 12 unless a disaster happens.

Have you booked your flights yet?

If you haven't it's worth checking car hire prices the other way around.

Last year we did Washington DC to NYC, we were originally going to do NYC to DC until I realised car hire going from DC to NYC was half the price of NYC to DC.
