For the purposes of an experiment, this time - for the first time ever i think - i actively went and looked at the updates. It was giving me the option to download and install Win10 1909 which i opted to do. As i said i never normally bother and let it do it all itself.

It downloaded while i was working away, and then it told me it had downloaded and was ready to install, so as it was lunchtime i told it to reboot and install.

25 mins or so later, all complete and it started up. No issues at all. No noticable change, no intervention from me (other than to tell it to do it rather than wait).

Thats on my 7 year old Dell PC, i3-2120, 8Gb RAM, SSD. No issues, no drama, no need to sell up and go to Apple or Linux :)

    That surprises me.

You're being suitably vague and ominous though as to what your actual problems were.

Eh? The list I gave in post #17 was pretty honest.

Your posting history with regards to Win10 and your Dell laptop doesnt really reference any problems either - just stuff about browsers and a reinstall before resale which you did with no issues.

A bit creepy that you would sift through my posting history, but anyway. What is your point, exactly? If I didn't post it, does it mean it never happened in your view? I did in fact start a thread about the persistent sound fault (and it was never resolved..).

Do you think that your n=1 somehow makes the example I gave invalid? Serious question. If you do, then I won't waste any more of your time.

Not sifting no, a cursory glance. I had a vague recollection of someone posting about specific Win 10 issues and thought it was you. Thats all. Creepy? Posting histories are public - if you find that (also) causes you concern (lots of things seem to), take it up with MSE and perhaps they can make yours private.

No, however it was in line with my expectations, based on experience.

There seems to be a view that Win10 updates WILL fail. That was a major one on a very old machine and had i not taken the time i wouldnt have know (a) it was major and (b) that it "might" be problematic.

I just find it odd that some people seem to need to know what updates are occurring to the point of almost planning for them?

I would say however that whilst being in line with my expectations thats based on having various ages of Win10 devices running with no issues. I also work for an organisation with an estate of maybe 8,000 windows 10 machines and remarkably (apparently if some people on here are to be believed) all users do have full, productive working days.

No users fret about upcoming updates, no one tears their hair out, and noone has resigned because they run Windows 10.

Anyways, i'll get back now to not caring about windows updates and leave you to it.

So decided to install last night.

I was expecting 20 minutes plus and it was less than 10 minutes to install.

I have been using W10 for nearly two years now on a Dell desktop and to date have never had a single problem with any updates.
