I have 1909 sitting as a Extra asking if I want to download it since last update earlier this month.

So far just ignored it with the idea that when it wants to download itself it will with the new update next month.

Well, it's clear that a lot of users have had trouble with W10 updates. Although mine was a native W10 laptop, it still had problems with updates. As well as that though, it was generally glitchy and sluggish; in fact the old W7 machine it replaced was faster in everyday use. The onbord sound never worked properly and had a mind of its own.

Also I found it nonintuitive to use and struggled to find things that were easy to find in older windows. It was constantly trying harvest personal data to the extent of reversing privacy settings. And then trying to connect up peripherals . .

No it was just a backward step from W7 for me. I think it's significant that those who step up to defend it are usually either IT professionals or amateur enthusiasts. Perhaps they enjoy finding the solutions and get satisfaction from knowing how things work. I'm sure i would too if I knew how to fix such things.

Macbook Air by the way, and very happy with it.

    Really?

And whats "a lot"? Theres 75 million Windows 10 installs worldwide...

I have found that problems likely occur with non mainstream hardware brands and / or old hardware.

I genuinely only use Windows as a means to an end. I use my computers only to connect outwards to other produces - ServiceNow, G-Suite, etc.

I have not ever bothered myself with knowing what patch is being installed when or how or why. It just happens and i let it.

All tech harvests data these days. Do you really think Apple dont? I've nothing i'm afraid to let it know so if that means i get targeted adverts instead of random ones, then fine with me.

I saw in the last 10 minutes Win10 wants to apply an update. I've scheduled it for 18:00 tonight. I full expect thats the last i'll hear about it and my machine will reboot normally tomorrow.

I'm running a 7 year old Dell i3 desktop with 8Gb RAM and an SSD, so not some modern tech either.

I am neither an enthusiast nor an IT professional, just a casual user, but I do think Win 10 is easy to use and have had less problems than I had with Win 7. To be honest, I have found it the most stable version so far!

I would love to know what problems your native Windows 10 laptop had.

There were threads on here virtually every day from users having problems with W10, apparently around updates and drivers. A couple of updates in particular have caused problems IIRC.

The laptop was a good brand and reasonable spec btw.

Well that's good to know there's at least [STRIKE]one[/STRIKE] two happy users :D Perhaps I have been unlucky.

How do you mean, friend? Have I committed some sort of terrible IT terminology mistake?

Who said that? I am genuinely curious to know what problems your Windows 10 laptop had that you reckon were due to broken Windows updates, instead of something completely unrelated.

Actually, it seems that we may have reached 1 billion by now, it was 825 millions back in May: https://www.thurrott.com/windows/windows-10/206477/windows-10-is-active-on-825-million-devices

The fact that you put native in there made me wonder if I had used the wrong word.

Just as I put in the earlier post, really. Your reply illustrates the problem though that it could have been down to numerous other things, and one would need specialist knowledge just to know what these other things may have been, and how to fix them. All on a brand harry spankers machine.

    That surprises me.

You're being suitably vague and ominous though as to what your actual problems were.

Your posting history with regards to Win10 and your Dell laptop doesnt really reference any problems either - just stuff about browsers and a reinstall before resale which you did with no issues.
