O2 linking phone records to NHS records

I consider myself to be a male feminist. Is that allowed?

"may use" and "seeking legal advice" doesn't mean "linking" and "are allowed"
That said, personally I don't have any problems with this, especially as the data is "anonymous"

If the data is linked, it is not anonymous. You cannot link anonymous data. And O2 customers affected by this may have a problem with it. But what else might be in store in the future?

  • Did you create the thread after just reading the headline?
  • Mobile phone networks record every website you visit, the contents of every SMS text, the mast site your phone was affiliated to at the time, etc.

The site linked by the OP includes:
“ Clinicians decide whether to take “proactive” steps, such as contacting them by phone or offering an outpatient appointment”

Basically O2 are looking to share your web browsing data with a 3rd party. It might be well intentioned, but of doubtful legality. Thank goodness for VPNs

No. This goes against the professional codes of conduct of the healthcare staff involved, will go against the privacy policy of O2, and will also be illegal.

I don't think you're read the linked article properly.

The first thing it says is "A Spanish corporation and an NHS trust are researching whether patients’ mobile data could be used to predict mental health crises."

Nowhere in the article does it say they will use the data. The outline on the page is just that - an outline. Doesn't mean it will happen.

They are using the data for a research project. You are misunderstanding what the article says. They will use the data then see what the results of the research say to see whether it works or not.
This is what the NHS does - they word things in such a way as to give an impression different to what is actually happening.

More than 1 mast, normally the most local '4' so they can see where you are and if you are moving. Scary stuff sometimes.
