    mine is 09-01-29 !!
but my esavers are 09-01-28 .
however the regular saver doesn't have a sort code at all, just a 12 character alphanumeric.
(and my cahoot a/c is 09-06-40)

doh! this surely must be one of the silliest threads yet i've replied to!

09-01-29 is for a current account or ISA?

    09-01-29 was for the e-isa
09-01-28 the esaver and also the 123 current a/c
and no sort code for the regular saver

Their default is 09-xx-xx as this was inherited from Abbey National.
All others are legacy (e.g A&L) and won't be used on new products.

Most personal banking products are within the 09-01-26 to 29 range.
The remainder are usually loans, mortgages, some savings or business products.

    Does that help?

I have a sort code ending 32 (in the format of above) which I've had for many years and was formally Alliance & Leicester.

The list on Wiki suggests 09-01-31 to 36, 09-01-39 to 49 and 09-01-51 to 56 are all former Alliance & Leicester numbers. Also sort codes beginning 72 are former Alliance & Leicester numbers but these are apparently being phased out.

Dunno what happened to Bradford & Bingley though sort code wise, though I know they ran out of money and had to be bailed out Northern Rock style and a chunk of it was sold to Abbey which was owned by the Santander Group at the time (what we now know as Santander UK didn't exist until 2010). A quick Google search seems to suggest Barclays may have been their clearing bank prior to Santander.

Well considering I've already said that x-x-32 is in the former Alliance & Leicester sort code range and that A&L doesn't exist any longer and hasn't done since 2010, what do you think?

Are you going to answer the questions on why it matters ? You'll see that loads of people have different codes with no apparent pattern - if people understand what you're trying to find out they may be able to help

just to add to the general fun and games, i have belatedly noticed that an e-isa i opened in march 2016 had a sort code of 09-01-28 but an e-isa opened this year, april 2019, had a code 09-01-29 as previously mentioned.
what larks! hours of endless amusement to be had by one and all!!
