What happens on completion day

  • Not scare mongering at all. You were essentially illegally in a property you no longer owned!

You were lucky that your sale was only an hour behind. There can be and usually is several hours inbetween.

We left our old house at 9am and didn't get the keys to the new one until 1pm. That's a four hour gap and a lot of coffee to drink.
  • From 10.30 am that was no longer your property. You had no right to be there and quite frankly you are lucky that your buyers were not sticklers for the law as you could have been in trouble for not providing vacant possession at the time of completion.

jamie, believe me, you were lucky :). It doesn't always (or indeed generally) go as smoothly as that. I'm glad for you but scaremongering we're not. Hope all your house-moves are a straightforward...

Lol how dramatic, i didnt have to be out of my house until 2 and i could pick up the keys for next house from 1130, contracts have a time you have to be out by, not just as soon as the money transfers.

Wrong. They do put a time in, but the buyers have every right to say get out if completion has happened. My friend had that.

I've not had to sit around for hours, but I did have to boot a seller out who was still cleaning cover 4pm. Tbh she might as well not have bothered as the house was generally filthy.
