Santander New Standing Order Screen Snafu

Options
Hello,

I have a Santander personal current account.

I like to use standing orders to top up my savings elsewhere.

First thing I do is set up the new payee, then make a test payment of £1.23 to make sure I have got the right sort code, account and reference. Then I check the savings account to make sure that the £1.23 has arrived.

If all is well, I then get back into my bank account to set up the standing order. I select the Set-Up screen. I used to be able to choose between "New Payee" or a list of my existing payees.

Having gone to the bother of confirming the payee details with a test payment, I want to use the existing payee details.

But the new Set-Up screen does not allow me to choose from existing payees. I have to put in the payee details all over again.

What if I get it wrong this time? I will lose a darn site more than £1.23 - that's for sure.

SANTANDER - I AM NOT A HAPPY BUNNY.

AND ANOTHER THING!!

I do NOT have a smart phone. Even if I did, I would NOT want to use it for banking. SO STOP TELLING ME TO USE MY MOBILE BANKING APP.

Grr. :mad:

    The payment will likely bounce and return to your account (happened to me when I typed in the wrong account number for somebody), or you'll ring them up and get them to claim it back for you. It's a standing order to top up your savings, not the transfer of proceeds of a house sale to an overseas account. There really is no reason for all this drama.

    Do you not have the ability to enter information, double check it and then submit?

    Then don't use Santander and move to a bank that doesn't need you to have a mobile phone.
    Retired at age 56 after having "light bulb moment" due to reading MSE and its forums. Have been converted to the "budget to zero" concept and use YNAB for all monthly budgeting and long term goals.

    @Slappermum.
    Thank you for your reply. If it does not bounce then things are not that simple.

    @!!!.
    Thank you for your reply. You have got me bang to rights. And it worked - I felt a whole lot better for it.

    @Eschaton.
    Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately, I am little bit number blind, hence the rigmaroll with the test payment.

    @tempus_fugit.
    Thank you for your reply. As a long time customer of Santander, I do not feel inclined to encourage them when they make my life difficult. So I intend to remain and get them to treat their customers with more courtesy. On the other hand, tempus does indeed fugit so I might just give up and leave as you suggest.

    are you able to amend the existing standing order amount from 1.23 to the amount you want?

    Hiya 18CC,

    No, the test payment of £1.23 was not a standing order, but an ordinary one-off payment, but thanks for your reply.

    Given the post by soulsaver, I reckon the Santander software has a glitch in it. I have tried to explain the problem to them - don't know if they have the nous to log a system fault - maybe they will, maybe they won't.

    Best wishes,
    LinW13
