No, there is no federal law that forces retailers to even have a refund & replace policy, let alone give the consumer any basic rights. Some states have a state law that outlines the requirement to tell you if the store has a policy, but don't mandate much detail on what the policy should be. Even so, Nevada is not one of those states and so you are only bound by the store's own policy on the matter which forms part of your contract.

Thank you for the informative response, it's quite shocking really when you think about it and makes you realise how lucky we are with our consumer laws!

Try The Better Business Bureau - www.bbb.org.

Thank you for this, very interesting.

I have come to an agreement with the company that they will pay for the replacement zip on the coat. It's not the best outcome but it means my son gets to keep his coat and I don't have to pay out further. I will be very wary buying in the States from now on, particularly from this retailer!

I think it is a very good outcome. Your son still has the coat he likes, albeit with a non-original zip. The retailer has acted fairly, they could have just refused to help
If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales

I imagine they will sigh a sigh of relief.

    You expect too much.

Imo if I were to buy clothing or any item from the US whether online or in person I accept that it might be hard to get a refund/repair or even impossible so I decide on that basis if its worth going ahead with it.

The manufacturer have offered a solution, I wouldnt let it stop me from buying from the retailer.
