yes be very careful about the padlock - you could have a nice secure encrypted link to a scammers fake website and the padlock would be there. As above, all the padlock means is that the link is encrypted.
click on the padlock to view the certificate and who you are connected to.0 -
One other thing you can do is check to see if the website uses https: in the url, it shows that the website is properly encrypted.0

One other thing you can do is to read the above posts from yesterday afternoon, so as to understand that taking any comfort from the use of https isn't particularly helpful when trying to validate fake versus real sites, for the reasons already explained....One other thing you can do is check to see if the website uses https: in the url, it shows that the website is properly encrypted.0
