I would not even consider not paying - you asked for it, she would not have bought it had you not. Why should she be out of pocket - OF COURSE YOU SHOULD PAY0

They also haven't read the OP very well as it doesn't mention traveling by plane at all...0 -
Of course you should pay for it!
Amazed you needed to ask!
Give the money without question and thank them for getting it for you and then express regret for all the hassle they have gone through on your behalf - not least the mess in their suitcase, for which you should be apologising. JEEZ! They sourced it, took time out of their holiday to go and get it, did their best to bring it back safely (and lets face it, it encroached on their own alcohol and weight allowance too) then put up with the mess when it broke!
Next time, if anyone is still willing to buy your wine for you, provide them with appropriate, protective packaging for it!0 -
No.
If I was the one bringing it back I would feel guilty taking the money for something I failed to pack properly.
Go halves as a compromise.0 -
Is that how your travel insurance works?
Mine doesn't.
Perhaps you could provide details of this very generous company...
I think that was a joke, not a statement of fact.
So the excess should be paid by the person who had requested the bottle of wine. But they should pay more than the excess as their friend will have gone to extra trouble in order to make a claim.0 -
You asked your friend for this and therefore took the risk yourself. You are not much of a friend if you are even asking this question.0

Just pointing out that that suggestion is a non-starter.0
