see OP's other thread where accountant has stated no tax was deducted by agency

Sorry my fault, yes the recruitment agency did deduct tax, this is shown on the payslips, but like you said after that job I still dont pay tax as im under the threshold. On Monday I have to sit down and get out all the paperwork I do have, as its possible I may not have all my P60s.
What i dont understand is from January 2016 to June 2016 I paid 20% tax. I left the company and started work again the end of that september and stayed in that agency role until the following April. The way I see it is you pay 20% tax if you are fulltime, but if i work and earn under the threshold limit surely my tax was paid for that year in the fulltime role. I shouldnt need to pay any more if I only earned that amount for six months. July and august I didnt work and I got a final payment from the previous employer for holidays not used which was also taxed.
I will though do a spreadsheet as you said and use only the P45 and P60 not the payslips.
I may post it on here for some help.
Thanks for your advice.
The letter of confirmation of dd came yesterday I owe £1437.92 including interest due. £90 a month and final payment of £177.92 in 2021. This is including the £300 payout into my bank when I did my self assessment tx return which apparently is not checked by anyone when you do your tax return online.
This is the first time I have ever had a problem with HMRC in 32 years of full time working.
Maybe I should have stayed fulltime!:undecided:think:

My spreadsheet and the letter concerning the amount owed. Worked full time at jost, part time since Laura Hartley. Its beginning to look like my tax code was 1097L and they have taken 10% instead of 20%.Mortgage Free 2016Work Part Time:DHouse Hunting In France 20230 -
An update:-
After emailing the top dog at Laura Hartley, she has admitted speaking to the HMRC a few weeks ago, they requested information from her and she sent it.
She explained that it was HMRC who told her what tax to deduct in 2016 so she has now contacted her accountant and is providing me with the information by Friday.
If this is the case that HMRC instructed them to take less than 10% then I have no alternative while paying back this money to send in a complaint with the information provided by tracked and registered post to the complaints department.
I asked her then why I wasnt told of the call from HMRC - guess what no reply, so someone is not telling me something.:mad:Mortgage Free 2016Work Part Time:DHouse Hunting In France 20230 -

I would suspect that you weren't told because you are not the only one this has affected and they didn't want to have to admit the mess they've made.0 -

HMRC don't phone up employers telling them what tax to deduct. They issue PAYE coding notices which the employer receives electronically. Someone is giving you duff information.0 -
Laura hartley the owner has phoned me tonight saying hmrc set the tax code for me. She now agrees with me saying it happened to another candidate of hers. She is sending me my file tomorrow. And possibly the date hmrc called her a few weeks ago.Mortgage Free 2016Work Part Time:DHouse Hunting In France 20230

The image on flickr looks like a P800. For 2016:17.
If you have filed a Self Assessment return for 2016:17 then the P800 calculation is no longer valid.
Can you clarify of you have actually filed a Self Assessment return for 2016:17?0 -
Yes I have done the return. It decided I was owed around 300 pounds. It paid into my bank. They have since recalculated and I have to pay it back. I'm going to find out what hmrc did eventually. I'm not letting it go as I'm being compliant in paying it all back.Mortgage Free 2016Work Part Time:DHouse Hunting In France 20230

So it sounds like your problem is a revised Self Assessment calculation. Not the P800 on flickr?
Or have I misunderstood?0 -

Are your total pay & tax figures (that you entered on the self assessment) the same as shown on your p800?
If your figures gave your a refund but theirs say you owe, then there is a discrepancy somewhere between the two.You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0
