Yes, the RAC carry all spares for all cars in their vans don't they? They are a get you to your destination service not a free repair whatever the problem there is at the road side service.0 -
Recently I had the misfortune to have a puncture on the motorway. the man from the AA changed my tyre and I got home. he had completed his task. it was my responsibility to get my tyre fixed, not his.
What extra service does OP want, the man from the RAC got you home!0 -
I don't expect them to repair anything for "free" my issue is with the service received in regards to the information I was given by their engineer.
If they diagnose something that turns out to be something else (without inspecting any other element on the vehicle) then how is that adequate service?
If you expected the RAC to provide a detailed and accurate diagnosis of any fault they encounter, would you have expected them to tow you to an RAC garage where they have the equipment, time and safe environment to do so properly, and to replace any parts that were needed, all for a broken wiper? I think not. Not for £16 a month. Otherwise we'd all take out that policy and not bother with a garage.
You need a different type of breakdown service if your expectations are beyond a fix at the roadside or a tow home or to a garage.0 -

You didn't pay them to provide an expert opinion about ultimately how your b*ggered wipers should be fixed, you paid them to get you home.
Would you have been happier if he had said he hadn't a clue why your wipers weren't working (but still got you home)?0 -
So OP is paying the RAC £192 a year for "get you home" cover? :eek:0

Speaking to RAC on the phone they suggest that the engineers are supposed to either fix or tell you what it is so you can get it fixed.
I appreciate he can't just whip out and replace a motor/mechanism, it is about the service. I.E - it;s your stalk that's the issue but I've fixed it so it's all good now.
There was no other checks done to ascertain any other potential fault, he just concluded that with a click of the stalk control that it was that at fault.0 -

So if he had done that how would you have been in any different position to the one you're in now? There was no other checks done to ascertain any other potential fault, he just concluded that with a click of the stalk control that it was that at fault.
Again, so what? How has him doing this put you "out of pocket"? A question you handily keep avoiding0 -

Their job is to get you going on to your destination not give you chapter and verse about at the roadside as to what the problem was. You are not out of pocket as you would have had the repair bill anyway!0 -

Have you actually ascertained that the broken motor was caused by the RAC's actions? If you can't show that, then a link between the dodgy stalk and the failing motor is speculative, and you're certainly not out of pocket.
Why do you consider yourself out of pocket, anyway?0
