3p/mile tax on EVs, 1.5p/mile on PHEVs. Plus a further freeze on fuel duty. Not exactly encouraging EV use, are they!
(This is based on the OBR leak, RR could choose to announce something else in the House ...)

It'll more than double my cost per mile but it will still be less than half the cost of petrol, per mile.

Not so good for those who can't charge at home, of course.

3p/mile is 9-12p/kWh, so if they scrapped VAT on public charging it would more-or-less balance out ... but I can't see that happening!

All of them I would think.  How could anyone tell E battery miles only?

Presumably all miles, as it is at half the rate of BEVs. Perhaps it will encourage people to use battery in PHEVs, rather than as a tax dodge.

And it looks like 5p/litre on fuel from next September and then RPI increases from April 2027. So those PHEV owners who never charge will be hit from both sides.
There is also a reduction in unit rate for electricity from 1st April.

If the fuel duty 'escalator' really is being reinstated,  our 3p/mile doesn't seem quite so unfair.

5ppl is approx 22p/gall so around an extra halfpenny per mile next year and another couple of annual rises could raise that to a penny.

But surely the 'neutral' way of raising revenue without disincentivising EV takeup would be to try and match the increased cost/mile for both classes.

The Times is reporting that the EU ICE ban is being binned for another 5 years.  Are we now an outlier?

"The EU is set to push back its ban on the sale of new petrol and diesel cars by five years to 2040, piling pressure on the UK to rethink the automotive sector’s net-zero commitments.

Senior industry leaders have confirmed that Brussels will revise its 2035 ban on the sale of cars powered by internal combustion engines, although the timing of the announcement is yet to be confirmed."
