*That said, for those wishing to make an environmental change, the economic benefits of a BEV make the environmental beneficial switch an easy decision, so perhaps 'our' decisions be they environmental or economical, are more intertwined.
I watched a German documentary on EVs the other night and apparently you to have to run a new EV for 6 years average mileage before the environmental benefits overtake an ICE.
There's a chart here that takes into account the larger carbon footprint (30-40% more Co2) of manufacturing EVs so I guess that's where the 6 years comes from:
    https://www.br.de/nachrichten/wissen/faktenfuchs-wie-umweltfreundlich-sind-elektroautos,RGBSYTj
I'm not rushing to replace my old ICE car whose manufacturing Co2 is a sunk environmental cost already. In fact if manufacturers supported the repair after market better, that would probably be the biggest environmental benefit.

Begs the question then, why are you even viewing let alone posting on a EV thread when you clearly have no interest in them ?
Is this thread meant to be an echo chamber for EV evangelists or a discussion forum?

If you thought it was worth paying an extra 15% just to save loading a few apps,  you're not going to be all that excited by only having to pay 10% in future !  And now that contactless cards are being more widely accepted at chargers,  there's even less advantage to the chargemap scheme.
Must admit, I've never used Chargemap so had no idea how it all worked.
We have the Charge Place Scotland network up here which has been free until recently with most regions now introducing fees. I'm pretty much charging overnight at home all the time now as a result.
    Where have you seen charges?
Ive never seen charges in Scotland, except for the odd rapid charger (and all motorway ones).
I regularly use them in the central belt , ayrshire and perth with no issues.
Orkney have had tariffs for a while, Dundee introduced charges in October, East Lothian started last year too and Fife start in April.
There's still plenty of free charging but I think it's just a matter of time before the rest follow suit although I guess they can't stay free forever.
    Hmm, thats dissapointing.
Do you know what they are charging per kwh?
    West central Scotland
    4kw sse since 2014 and 6.6kw wsw / ene split since 2019
24kwh leaf, 75Kwh Tesla and Lux 3600 with 60Kwh storage

    Hmm, thats dissapointing.
Do you know what they are charging per kwh?
Orkney - 25p kwh minimum £2 rapids, 20p kwh minimum £1 destination chargers
East Lothian - 30p kwh rapids, 16p kwh destination chargers, minimum £1
    Dundee - 15p kwh, 38p connection fee
No figures published for Fife yet

As you can see, it's a nice uniformed pricing structure ....... not.  :s

  • Dundee is fair, the rest... hmm!

That’s quite an about turn. Who operates ChargePoint Scotland and do they set the tariffs?
Northern Lincolnshire. 7.8 kWp system, (4.2 kw west facing panels , 3.6 kw east facing), Solis inverters, Solar IBoost water heater, Mitsubishi SRK35ZS-S and SRK20ZS-S Wall Mounted Inverter Heat Pumps, ex Nissan Leaf owner)
  • An English company called charge your car.
    I guess they set them...

  • Give em a break chaps. Installation of these chargepoints requires a significant investment which judging by the two points installed on our local supermarket car park, are unlikely to see much use. In the two years they've been there I've yet to see anyone use either of them!  At 30p/kWh that's a rough equivilant to current fossil fuel prices! Just saying.
East coast, lat 51.97. 8.26kw SSE, 23° pitch + 0.59kw WSW vertical. Nissan Leaf plus Zappi charger and 2 x ASHP's. Givenergy 8.2 & 9.5 kWh batts, 2 x 3 kW ac inverters. Indra V2H . CoCharger Host, Interest in Ripple Energy & Abundance.

Apparently, East Lothian Council's leccy bill was around £10k a year just for the chargers.
I can see that bill reducing significantly now they've introduced tariffs.
Personally, I think it's come a year or two too soon as EV uptake is still in its infancy.
We still have some good incentives up here though such as 6 years interest free loans for EVs and a further £300 grant on top of the £500 OLEV grant for home chargers. And like I say, the majority of CPS chargers are still free to use for now.

Remember the name of this website. I am sure things will change and it's only then that the public will vote for EV in serious numbers with their wallets. After checking that national and local govt has a joined up EV infrastructure policy of course (an interesting all-time first that would be).

So why do you keep telling us that EVs cost twice as much to insure? Will you share your source? 2nd time of asking.
