In fact if manufacturers supported the repair after market better, that would probably be the biggest environmental benefit.2 -

We have the Charge Place Scotland network up here which has been free until recently with most regions now introducing fees. I'm pretty much charging overnight at home all the time now as a result.
Ive never seen charges in Scotland, except for the odd rapid charger (and all motorway ones).
I regularly use them in the central belt , ayrshire and perth with no issues.
There's still plenty of free charging but I think it's just a matter of time before the rest follow suit although I guess they can't stay free forever.
Do you know what they are charging per kwh?West central Scotland

Give em a break chaps. Installation of these chargepoints requires a significant investment which judging by the two points installed on our local supermarket car park, are unlikely to see much use. In the two years they've been there I've yet to see anyone use either of them! At 30p/kWh that's a rough equivilant to current fossil fuel prices! Just saying.

Apparently, East Lothian Council's leccy bill was around £10k a year just for the chargers.
I can see that bill reducing significantly now they've introduced tariffs.
Personally, I think it's come a year or two too soon as EV uptake is still in its infancy.
We still have some good incentives up here though such as 6 years interest free loans for EVs and a further £300 grant on top of the £500 OLEV grant for home chargers. And like I say, the majority of CPS chargers are still free to use for now.

After checking that national and local govt has a joined up EV infrastructure policy of course (an interesting all-time first that would be).

(LV were more expensive for the Merc.) That’s how insurance goes and is an example of how we get anecdotal stories that EVs are more expensive to insure. When websites such as Drive Electric confirm EVs are more expensive to insure though the myth continues.

Edit: this is probably as close as we are going to get to comparative statistics for EVs and ICEs.The average cost of insuring an electric car is £1,263 (according to Confused.com data, Aug 2018 – Sep 2019).
The latest Confused.com price index, however, reveals the average price of car insurance in the UK is now £789 - this is across all powertrains and models.
