A Tesla battery researcher showed updated test results pointing to batteries lasting over 15,000 cycles or the equivalent of over 2 million miles

    Interesting !
So is this saying that any lithium battery topped up to 80% every day should suffer less degradation or just Tesla's new 4680 cells ?
I read it as the cells, but Tesla doing the testing. So I suppose if any manufacturer can match Tesla's 'magic sauce' when it comes to packs, and management, then presumably it's any cells at the latest and highest end?
So, have we now ticked off range (especially as charging gets faster), battery life, and perhaps cost (especially TCO) if batt replacements are no longer needed - not good news for the ICE.

I've seen 80% quoted a few times but it was always dismissed as the advanced BMS in EV should be able to maintain the cells to optimum without any intervention.
Now I'm wondering if it's worth trying anyway ??

All the scientific lab research shows that you can cycle as much as twice as much energy through a battery in it's lifetime by doing 4x as many 25-75 cycles as you can achieve via 0-100 cycles.
    I think....

Same story, take your pick of the reports.  Tesla Q3 registrations down 13% and M3 sales down 60% year on year in California as MY cannibalises sales.  Across the US Tesla registrations remained roughly equal to last year (across the states monitored).

Electrek can confirm that Tesla has dissolved its PR department — technically becoming the first automaker who doesn’t talk to the press.

Now it seems that the only “official” response that the press can get from the company is from Elon directly — mostly on Twitter.

This is a problem, mainly because Elon simply doesn’t have the bandwidth to answer even just 1% of inquires, but also because he seems to be almost exclusively responding to fans who are lavishing praise on him via Twitter and almost never challenge his views. It’s a problem that we have discussed in the past with the “Tesla Twitter.”

This BEV has popped up on so many Youtube articles, including a special on Transport Evolved. Although a tad bare bones, it may be just the right balance of price and range to get many interested. Well done Renault. [I think it should be Spring, not Sprint.]

Dacia Sprint May Be Least Expensive Electric Car In Europe

Dacia is known for being the no frills, bargain basement brand. The company was founded in Romania in 1966 and sold to Groupe Renault 33 years later. It is the largest company by revenue in Romania and accounts for 8% of that country’s exports. Now it seems Dacia is poised to introduce the least expensive battery electric vehicle in Europe. According to preliminary reports, it will sell for less than the Renault Zoe, the Volkswagen ID.3, the Nissan LEAF, and the SEAT Mii Electric.
The SEAT Mii Electric starts at $23,000 in most European countries before incentives and Dacia expects its new compact SUV-style Sprint to sell for less than that. That means in Germany, where the current incentive is €9,000, the Dacia Sprint will cost consumers less than $13,000, and that includes room for 4 passengers, 6 airbags, LED headlights, and automatic emergency braking. It also comes with an onboard 30 kW charger that can replenish the battery to an 80% state of charge in about an hour. Lots of LEAF owners (including me) would love such an addition to their cars.
But the big news about the Dacia Spring is that it will compete head to head with gasoline and diesel powered cars when it comes to total cost of ownership — a milestone in the EV revolution. “The Spring Electric is cost and energy efficient with a total cost of ownership lower than that of a comparable internal combustion vehicle,” Dacia says. “It even offers the lowest TCO on the market (electric and internal-combustion vehicles combined).”

I think this is BEV news, as the article seems to focus on vehicle emissions, and also because the problem has to be addressed, so support for BEV's will have to be part of the solution.

London the worst city in Europe for health costs from air pollution

The health costs of air pollution from roads are higher in London than any other city in Europe, a study has found.

Two other urban areas in the UK, Manchester and the West Midlands, have the 15th and 19th highest costs respectively among the 432 European cities analysed.
London suffers the highest social cost, at £10.32bn a year, well ahead of other European cities such as Bucharest (£5.75bn), Berlin (£4.75bn), Warsaw (£3.83bn), Rome (£3.76bn) and Paris (£3.18bn).
Many countries plan to bring in bans on the sale of diesel and petrol cars by 2030, including Germany, the Netherlands and Ireland, while the UK’s current target is 2035 and France has a target of 2040. This will reduce the levels of some pollutants, though electric cars still produce significant amounts of particulate pollution through tyre and brake wear.

Air pollution levels in most cities around Europe are at illegal levels. In an attempt to reduce the pollution and the associated costs, many cities have also increasingly started to allocate more space for sustainable modes of transport such as walking and cycling, as well as increasing investment in public transport.

For some reason I thought this had already been mentioned, but can't find it, so apologies if it's a repeat - so Tesla is to ship TM3's to Europe from China. At the moment there is a shortage of 3's as the US production lines switch to the model Y ramp up, and Berlin won't solve the problem soon, as it is (wisely) to focus on TMY production first.
Have to admit my initial reaction was would we want Chinese made 3's, but then I thought that they may well make a better product than the US, especially as Tesla focuses on the 'machine that builds the machine' so each new factory/production line, tends to be better than the last. I think, if I had the choice, I'd probably go for a Chinese model over a US model?
It might even mean a price drop as I assume(?) the Chinese made 3's will cost a bit less to build.

Tesla is starting to export made-in-China Model 3 to Europe

    Electrek’s Take

This is quite an important move.

If I may venture into some speculation, I think that with Fremont focusing on Model Y production and Tesla ramping up capacity at Gigafactory Shanghai, it may make more sense for Tesla to send Model 3 vehicles from China to Europe until they have local production at Gigafactory Berlin.

Model 3 achieves record low energy consumption in driving efficiency test

Presumably this is the NMC battery in the Tesla. I was surprised that the Leaf 40kWh got so close.

Tesla Full-Self Driving Beta Rollout Starts, Is "Slow & Cautious as It Should"

Am I being cynical in thinking it is more than a coincidence this was released before tonight’s Q3 earnings report? Can Tesla now legitimately book all the FSD revenue generated?
