Time (again) for those monthly disruption reports. And if the rapid part of the 'S' curve is 8-80% then Norway's PEV sales are already at the top, with monthly BEV sales mostly there at 62% and annual BEV sales now passing the 50% mark. Wow, wow and woweee. Note that PHEV sales alone exceeded HEV + petrol + diesel.

September In Norway Goes Off The Charts — Record Plugin Vehicle Market Share Of 82%

Electric vehicle pioneer Norway saw a massive 81.6% plugin electric vehicle market share of the overall market in September, with almost 62% being pure electric vehicles. Best sellers included the new VW ID.3, the Tesla Model 3, and Polestar 2. Pure fossils tumbled to just 11.1% market share.
and a shout out to VW:
The ID.3’s strong 1st month push of 1989 units somewhat mirrors what we saw in the Tesla Model 3’s first month back in March 2019, though the Tesla hit a much higher 5,315 units at the time. There’s always some pent-up demand and excitement for a compelling new model — the actual sales volume is more dependent on the OEM’s logistics and delivery strategy, and whether it is serious about selling EVs. Volkswagen has built up a decent stock of ID.3 over recent months, and all of its statements and investments suggest it is serious about selling EVs.

Eventually monthly sales will settle to steadier volumes, and it will be interesting to see what those will be. The ID.3 will no doubt become a very popular choice, and deservedly so, judging by early reviews.

Your point is a reasonable one, but the offer achieved its intentions in lowering costs, and if I, with a pretty low income could manage them, then many more could have done so but preferred to spend  their money on other things (cars/new kitchens/holidays/eating out etc.).

As I've pointed out here many times previously,  anyone with a mortgage could have applied for a 'further advance' to raise the installation cost and then paid off the loan at mortgage rates (seldom above 10%,  I think 5% was more typical in 2011) whilst earning 12+ %  from the FIT scheme.

There's no stopping Sweden now, 1/8th BEV's and 1/3rd PEV's in September sales.

Sweet September in Sweden – Pure Fossils Fall Under 50% As EV Share Hits New Record

Sweden saw pure fossil fuel powered vehicle market share fall to an all time low of 47.3% in September. Plugin electric vehicles broke new ground at 34.4%, and plugless hybrid vehicles took the remaining 18.4%. We can expect pure fossils to continue on a steady decline from here on out.

Record production and deliveries for Tesla in Q3, as expected. Though I'm sceptical that they'll hit 500k for the year (180k for Q4) after the C19 issues, but with a 40% annual growth, I think they are still on for 1m+ in 2022, and then, perhaps, Elon's target of ~20m pa by 2030(ish).

Tesla Delivers Record 139,300 Vehicles In 3rd Quarter — New Graphs & Chart

Tesla has released its 3rd quarter production and delivery numbers. The total figures for both production and deliveries were new quarterly records for the company — and by far.
The previous quarterly delivery record was 112,000 vehicles, in the 4th quarter of 2019. Last quarter’s 139,300 deliveries were more than 27,000 units higher.

France still tickling the start of the BEV disruption curve, with 6% sales for the month and the year, way up on last year:

France Sees 10.6% EV Market Share In September — 4× Growth Year On Year

French plugin electric vehicle sales in September were dominated by full battery electrics (BEVs) at 5.9% share, with plugin hybrids (PHEVs) taking 4.7% share. The year-to-date cumulative shares now stand at just over 6% BEV and just under 3.5% PHEV, for a combined plugin share of 9.5%. This time last year the cumulative plugin share stood at 2.6%.

Might we see a £/€25k Tesla on European shores in the future, well one can hope.

Unique ~$25,000 Tesla Vehicles Planned For Europe & China

We now have confirmation that Musk does plan to spread the love and make cheaper Teslas available around the world. We also learned that different lower-cost vehicles will be developed in different markets — at the least, one will be designed and developed in Europe while one will be designed and developed in China. The work designing and developing those cars will be done at Giga Berlin and Giga Shanghai.

And a smaller, lower priced vehicle will be needed to reach demand and sales numbers like 20m pa. In the US, apparently demand roughly doubles for every $5k cheaper a vehicle is, so a $25k vehicle is in a market with around 8x the demand of one in the $40k market.

Elon Musk: Tesla Aiming For 20 Million Vehicles/Year By 2030

Elon Musk tweeted out some big news this week about Tesla’s future plans. However, it wasn’t about immediate plans and it followed Tesla’s huge Battery Day event, so it seems to have gotten lost in the shuffle.
First of all, Musk tweeted that Tesla plans to reach production/sales of 20 million vehicles a year by 2030. He acknowledges that it’s an ambitious plan that “requires consistently excellent execution.” Nonetheless, that’s basically Tesla’s whole history. It is built on ambitious plans that many see as “impossible” but the company consistently got the job done.

Obviously this isn't just down to BEV's, but it's all part of the same story, and good news to hear/read:

‘Dramatic’ plunge in London air pollution since 2016, report finds

Air pollution in London has plunged since Sadiq Khan became mayor, with a 94% reduction in the number of people living in areas with illegal levels of nitrogen dioxide. The number of schools in such areas has fallen by 97%, from 455 in 2016 to 14 in 2019.

Experts described the reductions as dramatic and said they showed the air pollution crisis was not intractable. More than 9,000 people in the capital were dying early each year due to dirty air in 2015.

The report from the mayor of London, reviewed by scientists, shows that more than 2 million people in the capital lived with polluted air in 2016, but this fell to 119,000 in 2019. The report, which does not include the further falls in pollution seen after the Covid-19 lockdown began in March, shows levels of nitrogen dioxide (NO2) by roads in central London fell by 44% between early 2017 and early 2020.

The pollution cuts have been achieved by charges that have deterred dirty vehicles from entering the city centre and have driven up the use of cleaner vehicles. Putting low-emission buses on the dirtiest routes, ending the licensing of new diesel taxis and extending the amount of protected space for cycling have also contributed.

From 15th October Renault group is due to premier two new models, the diminutive and affordable Dacia Spring and a new B-segment compact SUV based on the CMF-EV platform.Dacia Spring. Image Courtesy: Renault Group

There’s not yet much solid information, but the Spring, with a likely WLTP range around 200km, will certainly cost less than €20,000 and perhaps less than €15,000. If the latter, it may take over from the ZOE as the group’s best selling BEV in 2021. Let’s see if Renault Group release pricing information at the forthcoming reveal event.
