TrueCar and ALG Forecast New and Used Vehicle Sales for September 2020 and the Third Quarter

I am not too bothered about estimated sales, the real numbers will do the talking. What interested me in the tables was how some manufacturers have a significant proportion of fleet sales whereas others like VW, Honda and Tesla are nearly all retail sales. I wonder if this will change as more EVs are rolled out.

Looks like the States has hit approx 1m BEV sales.

Total Plug-In Vehicle Sales In United States Reach 1.6 Million Units

In August 2020, according to the Office of Energy Efficiency & Renewable Energy, cumulative plug-in vehicle sales in the United States reached 1.6 million units.

Fully electric vehicle (BEV) sales are clearly in the lead among plug-in vehicles, accounting for approximately 1 million of these sales. Plug-in hybrid (PHEV) sales account for the other 600,000 or so. “Since June of 2015, BEV sales have outpaced PHEV sales, and for the last year, BEVs accounted for 60% or more of all plug-in vehicle sales,” the Office of Energy Efficiency & Renewable Energy stated.

Mart. Cardiff. 8.72 kWp PV systems (2.12 SSW 4.6 ESE & 2.0 WNW). 20kWh battery storage. Two A2A units for cleaner heating. Two BEV's for cleaner driving.

For general PV advice please see the PV FAQ thread on the Green & Ethical Board.

1.6 million is a big number. Quite a dent in the total of 279.6 million vehicles on US roads as at the end of 2019.
Let's hope they can come up with the materials to make up the 278 million fossil fuel replacements..._

Based on speculation, but Ford may have cut the price of their Mustang Mach-E due to the competition from VW, which if true is great news for BEV's in general as anything that drives down price will drive up demand, and hopefully supply too.

Ford Mustang Mach-E Price Cut, & 0–60 MPH Times Published

What’s the reason for the price drop? According to Ford, it is in a “segment that is seeing dynamic pricing changes.” Some have taken that to mean there are some consumer demand concerns. Some fans on a Mustang Mach-E forum thread who have commented on the reason behind the price drop, however, see it as a direct response to the Volkswagen ID.4’s just revealed price, which was lower than many had expected. The ID.4, which has quite a similar body type and design has a starting price of $39,995, while its 1st Edition trim starts at $43,995.

One commenter noted that ID.4 reservations sold out in one day, indicating quite a lot of demand for the newer, cheaper electric crossover/SUV.

People have probably picked up on the BEV news from Porsche as the Taycan tops sales in Europe. Putting aside pent up sales, this could mean a switch from ICEV to BEV for Porsche owners? I'm sure BMW would rather be switching sales to their BEV's, rather than losing sales to others.

Porsche Taycan Is A Fossil Porsche Killer

There’s a funny and misguided notion in much of the auto industry that any new electric vehicle is mostly just competing against other electric vehicles. It’s natural to want to compare a new model to the most similar model you can think of, but it’s misguided because, in many cases, new electric vehicle models are expanding the electric vehicle market.

With many new models — no matter the powertrain — buyers previously bought another model from the company. This is why “conquest sales” — pulling a buyer from another brand — is so important for automakers and dealers.

While most of the digital ink regarding the Porsche Taycan (and Mission E when it was called that) has been devoted to comparisons with the Tesla Model S, I think it really should have gone toward comparisons with other Porsche models.

New data show that the Porsche Taycan is now the top selling Porsche in Europe. Meanwhile, the 911 is down 37%, the 718 is down 5%, and the Panamera is down a whopping 71% and on the bottom of the sales ranking.

I've never seen an Amazon liveried van. The ones that deliver around here are often battered old ones belonging to independent zero-hours delivery drivers.

Quite common in US cities. Its part of the franchise package over there. If you want to be an Amazon driver as opposed to an 'Amazon' driver they will lease you the van, uniform, logos etc etc. In the financial districts of the cities they dont just want any old scruff turning up ;-)

Some big numbers from Toyota, but after a quick bit of mulling, I think they are pretty 'bad'.

They are moving their target for annual sales of electrified vehicles forward by 5yrs, but they are concentrating mainly on HEV's and PHEV's. They only plan to reach 1m sales of BEV's and HFCEV's in 2025, which if spread evenly is a half million each?
So betting big on hybrid's and betting small on BEV's, and just a guess, but I assume most of those BEV's will continue to be sold in China.
If this was their old/established target, then I'd have more hope for them, but as a revised target ..... they seem to be falling further behind the curve.

Toyota's annual global electrified vehicles sales could reach 5.5 million by 2025 - executive

BEIJING (Reuters) - Toyota Motor Corp's 7203.T annual global sales of electrified vehicles could reach 5.5 million in 2025, five years earlier than initially planned, a senior company executive said at an industry conference on Tuesday.

Toyota in 2017 had announced a plan to sell 5.5 million electrified vehicles, including 4.5 million of hybrid and plug-in hybrid vehicles and 1 million electric and hydrogen fuel-cell vehicles, by 2030.

Very complimentary article on this great value MG. And they also point out something I think is very important regarding range, which is charge time v's the need for a decent break after ~3hrs:

ICE-Breaking MG5 Gives Over 200 Miles Real Range & 35 Minute Charging To 80%, For £24,495 – Reserve Yours Quick! (Videos)

Initial UK road tests of the MG5 EV show comfortably over 200 miles of real world range, and an impressive 35 minutes to recharge from 10 to 80%, for the stunning entry price of £24,495 (all-in, on-the-road price). The price point is on par with best selling ICE estate rivals like the VW Golf, Ford Focus and Toyota Corolla, but with very much lower running costs, higher long term reliability, a longer 7 year warranty. This electric MG will also have much better value retention as the end of the ICE-age approaches. Reserve one quick!
In practice all of this means that, after an initial 3 hours of steady highway driving, a roughly half hour comfort break can power the MG5 back up for a further 2 hours of onward journey (~140 miles at UK highway speeds). Then owners can rinse and repeat that 30 minute top up between 2 hour drives, as many times as wanted, thanks to the MG5’s liquid thermal management. With high power DC chargers now growing rapidly in the UK, this effectively means the MG5 can usefully tackle pretty much any journey that owners may want to throw at it.

Just downloaded the brochure for this. Looks intersting.
