Missed PayPal Dispute - £400 Down And No Item Back

Hi there,
I need help with a case if possible. I won't bore you with the details but I sold a designer handbag on Ebay in June, the buyer opened up a PayPal dispute claiming she thinks it's fake in October, I missed the emails (old email address on the account) and PayPal ruled in her favour as a result.
Tried disputing the case but because I missed the chance to respond I'm apparently not covered buy their seller protection.
Really stupid of me not to check emails, I know, but gutted that PayPal don't even give you notifications or messages for such an important case? (I use the PayPal website every other day)
The bag was sold as brand new, she's heavily used it, and I'm yet to receive it. Was sold for £400. I'm now £400 down and without a bag.
I don't understand why PayPal isn't allowing me to dispute the case even with me saying I missed emails. I got in touch with them as soon as the money was removed.
Has anyone ever dealt with anything similar? Once I get the bag back I'll be taking it to a Givenchy rep to get proof of authentication (it was purchased 4 years ago)
I then don't know if my claim is with the buyer or Ebay? Obviously I need to try and recover the money I've lost.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. PayPal have been useless with this.

This happened to me - sold my iphone on facebook and person paid via paypal however it was a fake paypal payment. Had to dispatch the item and upload tracking number for payment to be released into my account. Never got the payment and without phone.
Contacted paypal and the police. Nothing could be done.
Absolutely gutted0 -

So it didn't happen to you as yours is a completely different situation.
OP - I'd ask a board guide to have this moved to the eBay board as there are more experienced posters there who will be able to advise best.0 -

I'm not sure what you mean by not being notified. They email you each step of the way and show it as an alert if you log in to your account.
I'm not entirely sure what other messages you were expecting?
As you did not respond to the case buyer will have been told there is no need to return it so unless you now contact the buyer, and assuming they still have it, you need to make arrangements to collect the bag at your own expense and at the buyer convenience.
You have no further claim against either eBay or PayPal as you are out of time, obviously you still have small claims, but having missed PayPal's time frame you knight even struggle with small claims.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Yes, I missed the emails but I never saw any notification alert in my PayPal? I've logged on via Safari on my phone and on Google Chrome. When I got messages from support staff (in response to complaining about this) it showed as a new message but nothing when the dispute was issued. And thanks I'm gonna have to try small claims.0 -
Mod - could you please move this to the Ebay board.0

If you're getting the bag back you haven't 'lost' anything, buyer gets their money back, you get your goods back. Surely you don't expect to get your bag back and the £400?
Once you have it you can then get it authenticated at Givenchy and re-sell it.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -

A lot of phone apps just don't have the same functionality as the web accounts - have you logged into Paypal on a PC?0 -

The OP has indicated that they are very unlikely to get its back, and if it has been used then she probably won't get the same price. Buyers claiming goods are fake are often told not to bother returning them.0
