O/S Daily Monday 18 November 2019

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Dark, cold and blustery wind to start the day.

DH and DS1 getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying first cuppa whilst on here. DS2 settled and ok.

Lunch yesterday was roast lamb, roasties, mash, cauli/broc cheese, swede, carrots, peas, yorkshires and gravy - meat cooked nicely and was a good flavour, some LO's too. Tonight will be fish, chips/jacket potato, beans/veg.

Back to work today.

Keep safe and well x

    Morning All

-4 this morning, the car has been scraped and is warming up before I go for a swim, I've been very lazy lately and not been!

I had a lovely weekend with DS1 and the DGC, lots of walking and scootering, a ride on the train and enough laughter and chat to keep me going for a while.

Glad you're home Gers, hope your recovery is swift.

Must dash, hope everyone is well, take care. XX
  • Good morning and thanks for starting NMLC.
It's cold and dry here, a nice change from all that rain anyway.

There's not much to report - i went to Bon Marc*e yesterday to collect some trousers I'd ordered, but they'll have to go back. I find it hard to get a good fit in trousers, though their jeans are a lovely fit on me.

I didn't do much for the rest of the day, bit of tidying up, then sat about a lot reading the Sunday papers.

Today, Dgd will be with us after school as usual. I expect we will be card making again for Christmas, she started last week and made 3. She is full of excitement about Christmas, but her little brother doesn't know about it yet, as he's not yet 2.

That's it really, there are plenty of jobs to do, so I'll try and muster some enthusiasm for cleaning the bathroom and even tackle the ironing.

Gers, hope you continue to improve, and thinking of others who have been out of action.

    Take care folks

Morning folks and thanks NMLC. We actually have some sun forecast for today! Most welcome after all the drab and miserable weather we have been having of late.

Good to hear you are back home GERS and I hope you managed a good sleep in your own bed. Here's to a speedy recovery.

Youngest DGD has asked me to go into school this morning for her liturgy. DD has a doctor's appointment at the same time which she has been unable to change so I am the understudy!

Not much else planned for the day so I may have a browse round town before heading home. We have heard two more shops will be closing at the end of the month. One is Bon Marche which is the only shop where I can actually get a pair of jeans to fit my stumpy short legs. I may have to stock up a bit before they close. We have lost so many shops over the last couple of years it's sad to see.

Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for the poorlies, sad and convalescing. Take care all xx

    ******

Cross posting withSCARLET!! It's funny we were both singing the praises of Bon Marche jeans at the same time!!

    Morning all

Cold and dark here this morning but no rain yet will see if we get any later.

We went out for a short walk with the pup yesterday mainly to test my foot and see how it held up, for the first time in about 18 months I was pain free !!!! it was bliss and really strange not being in pain with every step, today will be the test though being back at work and standing all day will show if its worked.

Unfortunately pup was set upon by another dog while out, they had a set too and she screamed in pain, I managed to lift her up out of the way with this big other dog jumping up at me and his owner and OH running over towards me to help, thank goodness she was ok but it was a bit fraught there for a while.

Roast beef for dinner tonight all left overs from yesterday so just needs heating through when I get in.

Gers I hope you had a good night and managed to get some sleep xx

    Have good days all xx
  • Good morning and thank you for starting the thread nmlc.

We ate forecast sun today so I'm just waiting for the washing machine to finish with a load of bedding and I'll hang it outside. Meant to go to the dentist later but I think I may cancel, the tooth that was giving me trouble has settled now, 2.5 hours travelling and a waste of the dentist's time seems daft.

Gers, I hope you had a decent night.

Not much happening here, so I'll wish everyone a good day.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back
  • Good morning and happy Monday!

Well, I had a really, really nice weekend. It didn't vary much from my usual weekend activities but I felt I maybe treated myself a bit a more. For example, I went to the local markets and bought some fresh steak and free range eggs (instead of from the SM) and I also managed to buy another Xmas present from the same markets too. They were turning on the Christmas lights that day and there were kids singing carols and proud parents standing by taking pictures. It was frosty and dry and I just came out of an enjoyable yoga sessions. I just felt really good. Even went to the local ice hockey at night with a mate of mine.

Yesterday I wanted to maintain this positivity, so I treated myself to a coffee and mid-morning cake from a local, independent coffee shop which was lovely. My football was cancelled so I decided to make a salted caramel Christmas log and steak burritos using yesterdays meat - both were lovely.

So I start the week in high spirits. I've had my 5am FaceTime with my step-bro in South Korea and went to the gym. Got yoga tonight but aside form that, not much else planned.

RR - Great to hear you're pain free! Long may that continue. Take care today.

    Good morning everyone :hello:

I am home alone! Steve has taken Phoebe for her doctor's appointment and Lee has gone to college. Lilly didn't come home last night so it is just me and the dogs here. I feel a bit nervous about it to be honest but it won't be for long I hope. I have already answered the door to the postman and also let the cat in so I am definitely a bit steadier on my legs.

I managed to put a pound on this week which is very annoying. I know why though as my portion sizes have creeped up and there has been a bit of snacking going on and even though it is mainly fruit I am eating it all still has calories. Never mind, I shall learn from this and do a lot better this week.

Speky, so nice to hear about your positive frame of mind. Your weekend sounded lovely xx
redruby, sorry about your pup getting attacked, must have been very frightening for the both of you but was so happy to hear that you are pain free at last xx
Gers, hope you had a good day at home and got a good night's sleep too xx

I was going to make a soup for lunch but we have a lot of leftover stew from yesterday so I will have a small bowl of that to warm me up later. I don't know what Steve is going to make for dinner but I am going to have a go at making a tuna pasta bake as I had one in hospital and it was delicious and so I am going to try and recreate it at home.

I think today is going to be a fairly quiet day today but tomorrow I have lots of visitors so I will enjoy the peace while I can.
Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx
  • Pleased to hear you are getting a bit better on your feet Dumpling. Hope you had a decent nights sleep Gers and progress continues. The secret is to do exactly as you were told by the hospital and everything will be fine.

A bright morning but its very cold, load in the dryer........

Yesterdays lamb was delicious, plenty left for lamb salad and jacket spuds tonight.

I have a table runner to quilt, I keep putting it off, really must screw up courage and do it, I want to finish it out of the way. Then I can get on with some other Christmas presents.
  • Good morning all x
Bright but cold here today. Not yet ventured out as been busy ironing.
Bread is rising and wm is done for day. Must hoover and wash the floors as wiping doggie pawprints is not enough thanks to the muddy garden at the mo.
Roast chicken tonight as we didn't feel like it yesterday.
DD1 has just asked me to have DGD on Xmas eve during the day so cookies for santa will be my job this year.
Tried the dog on raw food this weekend and even though she loves a bone and raw chicken on her lick mat she refused the bowl of meat ( proper princess)
Need to put a plan together for moving the lounge/diner around so we can get the Xmas tree in.
    Anyhoo better get on.
Hugs to all in need xx
    Bright Blessings xx

Afternoon all/ I'm currently reading home style type magazines so I can give them to a friend on Wednesday when we meet for lunch [ decluttering a go go!] Had an unfortunate shrinkage on Saturday as my favourite hiding-from-the-world top was shrunk in the tumble drier. I found a similar one for sale and it has just been delivered so all is well with the hiding world again and I can once more venture forth with confidence [and warmth, since it doubled as a jacket]
Am going to Italy for a week next week to see relatives so this week am going to sort out things to sell on ebay when I get back, more decluttering - to which end I am also reading in between bursts of activity a very old thread that's quite useful for oomph

I've used up the two special balls of wool I bought at the knitting and stitching show and they have turned out to be not nearly enough for another cowl so will have to go to town and look in the haberdashers for more. Also still haven't got any useful yarn to mend my socks so another purchase to be made.
dumpling, good to hear you so chipper! Gers, same to you, you seem in marvellous spirits for such a short time after a major op :) ruby, good to hear no pain was achieved, long may it last...hey everyone! Move along Monday!
